Do they instruct candidates NOT to look at the camera when they speak?

I just watched both Dem and Repug debates, and I don't think any candidate ever looked into the camera for more than a nanosecond.

Why is this?

1. Why would they look at the cameras?

They're addressing the questioners, moderators, and sometimes each other.

4. Because they are talking to me

5. Then you need to be the director of the TV show, and tell the candidates to never look at the people

in the audience, etc.

2. The camara's are in the back of the stadium with BIG zoom lenses.

The candidates can barely see them, if at all in 20K people events with the lights on in their eyes.
