March 18, 2004--In Michigan, Massachusetts Senator John F. Kerry leads President George W. Bush 48% to 44% as the election season begins. That result is within the survey's 4.5 percentage point margin of error and suggests that Michigan may again be competitive in the Electoral College showdown.
Four years ago, Bush lost Michigan to Al Gore by five percentage points.

Currently, Kerry leads by six points among women voters in Michigan while the candidates are tied among men. Bush leads among Michigan's Investor Class 52% to 45% while Kerry leads among non-Investors 50% to 37%.

Most interesting is Washinton State in which Gore won by five percent but in which Kerry now has a 12 percent lead over Bush

Bush lost Michigan in 2000, and he's less popular here now than he was then.

5. Ignore the polls

because they basically don't mean this much right now. They can show trends, and that's it. It would be suicidal for people in states polling a strong Kerry lead to stop working to register voters, keep recruiting workers, etc. etc, just as it would be foolish in the suppoesed "red" states to give up. We must all work like it is neck and neck in every state, and talk with everyone we know. There's a lot of resentment out there-tap into it. Listen to what people have to say. Then show them how their resentment is tied to Bush Administartion policies. It's easy, and that way you can win over a lot of voters.

6. Do the Dems have any big voter registration programs?

Gore won more votes in 2000, & Bush has lost support, but the Repubs are furiously registering new voters.

I hope the Dems are doing the same!

But, how can they be sure they are registering voters who will vote Republican? Or do they really have no idea?..just registering whom ever?

I'm curious how that works.
