Civil as in recognizing that St. Obama may not be the be-all, end-all answer to all of our problems. And recognizing that he has flaws, just like Hillary, and we just happen to disagree with your choice. And giving some respect to those who disagree with your choice, rather than the constant beat of derision that is seen here.

It amazes me that you can change even the word "civil" to something that is partisan and divisive.

As hard as it is for some around here to imagine, DU is not 90% of the democratic base.

The "I won't vote for Candidate X because his/her supporters hurt my feelings" crowd is irrelevant, both as a voting block and as participants in the party's discourse.

Oh, and as a matter of record: I think the OP is a bit quick to call the race over.

But neither candidate can win in November without the other's supporters.

Its not just this board where there is a problem.

25% of Dems currently wouldnt support Obama in an Obama-McCain matchup.

25% of U.S. citizens will worship the ground Bush walks on even if he starts drinking the blood of puppies in the streets.

Until we have chosen our candidate we can't be surprised that the same percentage of Democrats are so hyper-partisan that they would say that they will not support the other candidate while their candidate is still in the picture. Once either Obama or Clinton come out on top the vast majority of that 25% will support our nominee. Right now the Us versus Them is within our own party. Once cooler heads prevail, everyone will remember that 'Them' are the conservatives and the same 25% of hyper-partisans will want to be involved again.

And what if they don't? Well, I am not for herding sheep into the polls by making sure to kiss all of the paper cuts they got by becoming hyper-partisan to begin with. Personally, I think the majority of this crap I see here at DU is pure attention mongering. As to the general public, who knows.
