...because it means that the poster could not understand the limits of the forum, even after moderators worked with them.

We all bring something to the community of this forum. There are some Hillary supporters who irritate me and one or two who are real asshats. But they are OUR asshats, part of our forum, and if they were to leave th entire timbre of the forum would change.

Why can't people just ignore the asshats they can't tolerate? If asshats are ignored long enough, they do go away, OR THEY CHANGE to better fit the forum. I saw it on the ACLU boards when I was moderator.

As you haven't been here long, just take my word for it; the function is necessary, and the decisions are never made hastily. There's usually a reason for it, and it's not just because the poster 'didn't understand the rules', but because they've established an incorrigible pattern of disruption.

The majority of them were freepers and such trying to sow discord, while others were chronic forum rule-breakers. Still others were 'sock puppets' from the formerly TS'd.

Many bannings have been controversial and arguably unjustified, but there are times when even long time, valued members have worn out their priviledge.
