Cheney campaigns for Mississippi candidate

Davis got some high-level help on the eve of the runoff. Vice President Dick Cheney attended a rally for Davis. Cheney told the rally that Davis would support President Bush on his policies in Iraq, on maintaining tax cuts championed by the president and on programs supported by the national Republican Party.

This amount of money along with the large number of high-profile Republicans who campaigned there has to make this sting extra hard in. Obama may not be favored to win in the deep South, but he might be able to squeeze out one of those states. I say make an ad with McCain's quote about 'rebuilding, tearing it down, or whatever' New Orleans along with him celebrating his birthday that day and see what comes out of it.

This isn't Lott's seat; it's Roger Wicker's seat. Wicker was appointed by Barbour to finish Lott's term. Childres' seat is in north Mississippi and Lott's from the south, from Natchez. I suppose, since senators are elected from the whole state, you could say Wicker took over Lott's seat. Childres took over Wicker's seat.

thus set in motion a campaign that boiled down to childers and davis. The winner tonight will be seated as the rep from the 1st district next week....the thing is both childers and davis will go up against each other in November.

Now it is time to take the senate seat held by lott and elect ronnie musgrove as the new dem senator. Musgrove has a narrow lead of 8 statewide because he was the govenor and has the name. So, hopefully come november we will win the 1 st district seat outright and add another dem senator to congress....

Trent Lott represented the gulf coast. His old seat, or the territory it covered is now held by Gene Taylor. Taylor in fact ran to replace Lott when he ran for Senate. He lost narrowly to Smith and then Smith died in a plane crash. Taylor won the special election.

Just to be clear, Trent Lott was born in that part of the state, but he married a woman from the coast and moved down here fourty years ago. His house was destroyed in Katrina. This seat was Roger Wicker's and before that, Jamie Whitten's, who was a sitting member of Congress when Pearl Harbor was bombed
