| One of the best things the DNC can do, |
|
in my opinion, is to create pamphlets of some sort informing voters across the country of their rights, on both state and local levels, at the polling place.
To my knowledge, no legal citizen of the United States aged 18 or older, who can establish his/her identity, should leave the polling place without having cast a ballot. Even if a person's name isn't found on the voter rolls, that person can cast a contested ballot.
I would suggest that such a pamphlet should also contain lists of numbers which can be called if anything illegal goes on in a polling place. Let's flood the FEC, the several state elections commissions, and even the ACLU, with telephone calls if even a single person is deprived - for any extralegal or illegal reason - of their Constitutional right to vote.
Ignorance is the friend of those who choose to operate outside of the law. To fight these people, we must fight the ignorance which allows them to function.
Any thoughts?

Could you send it to the (John Kerry.com) web sight? They might be able to found it.

| 5. I'm writing a letter to both the Kerry campaign and the DNC |
|
right now. If that doesn't work, I'll call them 'til hell freezes over.
Welcome to DU, btw. :hi:

| 3. You are exactly right. ~ No person can be turned away at the polls. |
|
The word must go out about this. There were too many who were "turned away" illegally in 2000 and 2002 as well.

| 4. This is why I think having a pamphlet |
|
- or even printable guidelines on the DNC website, John Kerry's website, DU, and any other place we can put them - is so vitally important. People can carry these with them to the polls and consult them if necessary.
And if that doesn't work, they can call the numbers included in the pamphlet and report the illegality. Any attempt at turning voters away from the polls must be carefully reported and dealt with immediately. We've got to send voters to the polls prepared for any obstacle. Voting's too important for us to just assume that everyone knows the rules.
