| TV Spot idea to address the anti-Cleland/Kerry/McCain type stuff. |
|
It really rips my shorts what these sick righties say about combat veterans who have distinguished themselves in battle. It's one of the issues that caused me to take a hard look at the Democratic party and make the jump to them a few years back.
My wife's family is strongly Democratic, and my mother-in-law active enough in the party that she once held the County Chair. So when her nephew, also a Democrat, was serving in Iraq and we were all praying for his safe return I witnessed and felt the pain caused by those nuts who suggested that Democrats who serve are not patriots.
To undercut this insidious theme, which has been a strong part of George W Bush's political life, I suggest the Democratic Party create and air a spot like this:
----
MUSIC: PATRIOTIC "BAND OF BROTHERS" STYLE MUSIC UP AND UNDER.
VIDEO: Series of intense combat clips/stills/paintings from all our wars -- D-Day, Flag at Iwo Jima, Nam, Korea, fire fights, wounded soldiers carrying more severly wounded soldiers etc, slow dissolving into each other.
ANNCR VO: There are those who suggest that true patriots are not made by how soldiers distinguish themselves in battle ...
... but how they later distinguish themselves by political party.
VIDEO: TRANSITION FROM BATTLE FOOTAGE, TO SHOTS OF VETERANS AND CURRENT SOLDIERS.
ANNCR VO: And that is wrong.
It's time to support all those all who risk their lives to keep us free. No matter what their political views may be.
VIDEO: DISSOLVE TO TWO SOLDIERS IN DESERT COMBAT GEAR CARRYING FALLEN BUDDY, ZOOM INTO CONCERNED FACE OF ONE OF THE RESCUING SOLDIERS.
It's time to make the United States of America united once again.
VIDEO: FADE TO ECU OF FLAG.
SUPER: DEMOCRATIC PARTY & LOGO.
ANNCR VO: Proudly paid for by the National Democratic Party.
MUSIC: UP AND OUT.
----------
Run that against the Swift Boat Vets ads and see who smells better.

| 2. What you say is very disturbing. |

Here this nation is at war, and you attack a decorated American combat veteran.
My, my, my how the Republican party has fallen.
There was a time, when America was under strong leadership, that such an attack on a decorated combat hero would be considered traitorous ... treasonous ... wrong.
Perhaps this is why, so many Americans have turned away from the 90% support they once gave George W. Bush and have looked for new, tough, combat-tested leadership.
While America's enemies are Osama Bin Laden and Al Queda, there are those who support taking valuable resources away from the defeat of this insidious enemy to attack our own heroes, to cut taxes so our military is weak, to assure our veterans go uncared for, to create unwanted wars to distract us from the real job at hand.
It's a shame, that I had to hear a young Democrat who served bravely and honorably in Iraq tell me upon his return, "If I knew I would be treated so badly upon my return, I would not have served. Why must my service be dishonored because of my political beliefs?"
It's a good question, as more and more people who desire to serve their county come to understand that there are people like you who seek to dishoner and discredit those who love our country so much they are willing to sacrifice their lives, when you cannot even sacrifice as much as a tax cut.
You should be ashamed of attacking heroes. And be glad of what they have done in spite of your hateful lack of grattitude.
