For the time being, the AWOL issue helps Bush. It distracts from Bush's status as a chickenhawk.

Kerry is taking flak from Republicans for protesting the war. No one is currently asking Bush why he was for the war, but deliberately avoided fighting in it.

At least for now, Bush's chickenhawk status should be on the front-burner. The fact that he was AWOL even from his safe berth in the chickenhawk coop should be icing on the cake.

Kerry opposed a war in which he fought. Bush supported a war he chose to stay safely away from. Kerry is doubly a hero, Bush doubly a coward.
