| An Interesting Outcome to The Election... |
|
latimes.com has an interactive Electoral Vote Tracker. they show a lot of states as undecided, but, I just assumed that states leaning toward Kerry would go for Kerry and leaning toward Bush would go for Bush. And guess what? They each ended up with 269 votes (270 needed to win). Now, what happens when there is a tie?
The presidential election goes to the newly elected House of Representatives where each state delegation gets one vote. Since the Republicans control 30 state delegations and Democrats 15, guess who would win?
What is more interesting is, the Vice President is chosen by the Senate. So, if this happens, does it mean we could have Dubya as president but (assuming Democrats take back the Senate) John Edwards as Vice President?
Anyway, if there is a tie and Dubya is again an illegitimate president, what do we do?

are a lot more states leaning for Kerry than the 269 electoral votes. He has about 307 right now according to that formula. A tie means we lose.

It would have to be about the most politically charged government I'd ever see.

I don't know if the house would have to choose one of the VP candidates or could choose anyone.
If they could choose anyone it'd be great if they chose Nancy Pelosi or Al Sharpton. Just to piss off the Bushies
Not that Kerry wouldn't be a good VP

... which is not very likely, and Bush is elected President by the House, then it would not be "illegitimate", whether we like it or not.

we had after 2000 of massive voter disenfranchisement and cheating by Repukes. This time around we're contending with bbv fraud. The electoral shenanigans could be much worse, imho. Kerry needs a landslide to counter all the Repuke dirty tricks.

| 10. It refers to computerized voting without a paper trail. |
|
This type of voting is very easily manipulated. Most computerized voting companies are supporters of the Repukes. Check out this site for more info: http://www.blackboxvoting.com/

| 12. The Whigs predated the GOP, but ... |
|
... I don't think it's accurate to say that they were "absorbed" into it. The Whig Party fell apart in the face of the slavery issue, and out the ashes arose the ancestors of the present-day Democratic and Republican parties.
The Whigs stongly opposed the war with Mexico and the annexation of Texas. Were they right on this, or what?
Throughout Anglo-American history, "Whig" meant a position of liberalism and opposition to Tory rule.

if Bush lost the popular vote again. I don't mean illegitimate in the technical sense, the law (which I know is the definition of the word.) I mean in the sense that the will of the people will have been thwarted (again).
and welcome to DU!
