| * Handed Nevada To Kerry Today - Put It In The Bank |
|
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 02:18 AM by stopbush
Two days after John Kerry electrified Las Vegas (15,000+ attended his rally), dubya came to town and handed the state's electoral votes to him.
*'s sparsely attended photo op/slam-bam-thank-you-ma'am-invite-only liefest featured an equal amount of protesters outside whose enthusiasm was a sharp contrast to *'s lukewarm reception inside.
Our local CBS station (KLAS) showed footage of the * meeting with attendees sitting on their hands as his stupid speech failed to light any sparks.
He told us we were in a drought! Wow...that's news to us...we thought all the water restrictions and fines for ignoring them was just for fun.
But more importantly, * lied once again about Yucca Mt, saying he had followed the science and that he would NOT back down from his plan to turn Nevada into the nation's nuke dump site. (That's right - the Yucca plan is Thelma and the citizens of Nevada are Louise...and we're heading off the nuke waste cliff, thanks in large part to pResident Who-cares-What-You-Think?).
And with that stupid-is-as-stupid-does statement, * handed Nevada to John Kerry who has promised to kill Yucca Mt when elected.
* has no idea what a huge issue this is for Nevada. Even the NV Republican party has officially come out against the Yucca plan. But Mr stubborn-as-the-asshole-he-is just doesn't get it: in an evenly divided state like Nevada, such single issues are VERY important, and all the lying and spin in the world won't put Nevada in the R column come November.
Also gratifying: KLAS footage included a senior-aged protester who said he was a lifelong R until dubya "wrecked this country and so many people's lives", who has now switched to the Dems and "will never vote for another R as long as I live."

| 1. Tomorrow In Oregon Should Be Interesting... |
|
Too bad the GOOP can't redistrict Clark County to Utah. LOL.
The latest tracking polls look very very promising, but shouldn't be a surprise. Next to California, Nevada, and Vegas in specific have been hurt by this regime. From the depressed tourism to Yucca Flats to large budget defecits caused by Bunnypant's tax giveaway, I was optimistic Nevada would join with the rest of the West and go blue. A state with a Senator like Harry Reid can't be all bad.
I think Arizona and possibly Colorado remain "swipeable"...and is furtile ground for future Democratic gain.
I just spoke to a friend in Portland who is going to try and see both rallies tomorrow and give a report on how many people show at the Kerry rally (he predicts 25,000) and how close he can get to Bunnypant's money grubathon (he thinks no closer than 3 blocks).
Stay tuned...

| 2. Lots of people care about Yucca |
|
This can't possibly be the best idea to meet our energy needs in this country. I don't know what people are thinking, storing megatons of nuclear waste underground. Carting it all over the country. It's just stupid. Has to be a better solution.

Which greatly reduces the amount of time it is radioactive, and how much of it needs to be stored.
Carter banned reprocessing on nuclear-proliferation issues though. The cold war is over though, and the should reprocess this stuff again. It makes sense in the long run.

| 4. Agreed, the Lower Southwest is swipable |
|
The Lower SW (CO, AZ, NM, NV) is currently in the realignment phase of switching over from R to D. When it's completed, the Republicans are gonna have a mighty hard time finding votes elsewhere.

of taking all the Gore states and solidifying a small trio of winning states -- NH, WV, and NV.
NH is definetely leaning for Kerry. West Virginia is showing more hope than I ever thought was possible there...The last of this strategy is Nevada and it looks like we have a real shot, but it's still a real swing state showing conflicting leads.
By locking all the Gore states and these extra three small states, we win but barely (274 electoral votes) and I may be wrong but there is less of a chance of these three states being rigged in any way (OH is Diebold country and we all know the problems with OH).
I'm not saying to ignore FL and OH. Of course not - it would be foolish and idiotic to ignore 47 EVS. FL is especially winnable for Kerry (atleast ignoring the fraud factor), and by winning one or both, this election is over. However, with the fraud factor I'm not sure we should make these two states the centerpiece in any way.
One of Gore's mistakes was putting all of the eggs in one basket whch was Florida. A little more money or time into a smaller swing state like NH or NV might have done the job.

who are outraged that the administration is STILL behind the Mt. Yucca plan, and they are seriously thinking of sitting out the election because of this.
