| Hey! Are you talkin' to ME? |
|
You wanna piece of me? Sorry, I just had to say that. Ever since Elaine kept asking George's father if he wanted a piece of her in that Seinfeld episode, I've tried to work it into my daily conversation, but it's never been the right moment. Sorry,....I'm done amusing myself, now. Here's the deal.
I've noticed some complaining about wet blankets, nay-sayers, doomsdayers, etc. on DU lately. It occurred to me that some people might be talking to me. I HAVE suggested that Kerry address the swiftboat liars forcefully. I honestly don't see a downside. HIS HONOR IS BEING BESMIRCHED BY A BUNCH OF FREEPING LIARS FOR GODS'SAKE!!! Who doesn't stand up for themselves in a situation like that? At the very least, who doesn't have some really WELL PREPARED operatives out there doing for them, and countering the lies point by point? How in the * can anyone who professes to be for Kerry be against that? I honestly don't understand.
I don't know how involved many of you were in the 2000 election. I was very involved, and I saw what they did to Al Gore when he took the high road. Certain lies (think "I invented the internet") became common knowledge and were parroted even by Democrats. Just because we know the swiftboat freaks are liars doesn't mean the swing voters do. They don't. Even Hardball, in which Matthews slaughtered O"Neill a few days ago, is watched by almost no one. You can not count on anyone to fight your battles for you. And you can't wait until it is "common knowledge" that Kerry shot himself, fled under enemy fire, or faked his medals. I don't believe in underestimating the sheer evil of the other side. And I think that the 2000 election, which was STOLEN from us while the mainstream Democrats hemmed and hawed, is proof. That's all I'm sayin'.

I've even heard some committed Kerry voters say things like, "Well, maybe he did exaggerate stuff to get his medals, but so what?" The Swift Boat Liars have managed to get traction on this issue.
S&S: prepare to get hammered in this thread.

since you're not prepared to stroke their ego's by complaining with them about constructive criticism.

Yesterday I had a conversation with a dem that has voted for every dem since Carter, but she refuses to vote for Kerry because "he is a liar" and "shot himself in the foot". The day before I talked to a vet that will vote for * over Kerry because Kerry didn't earn his medals and threw them away. Now how in the hell is it that this is the perception in the country? Because Kerry won't challenge the lying creeps.
He has to stop taking the bashings and the high road. It did Gore no good, how can it be doing Kerry any good?
Yes, I know Gore won, but just imagine how many more votes he would have received if he had challenged the lies and misinformation.
As always, this is just my honest opinion!

Of course we can all see through this *, and we all know that it's lies. What good does that do? We are all going to vote for Kerry anyway. I thought we were trying to swing the undecideds our way? No matter how strategiss spin it, taking the high road is not the way to do it. History proves this point.

Kerry has no wounds to his feet. And it is the US Navy they should be upset with if Kerry was awarded something without merit not Kerry. Ask them if they are bashing the Navy? Kerry did not Award anything to himself.

| 8. But Kerry did throw them away |

or his ribbons. The vets who are still angry over the Veterans Against the Vietnam War will always be angry. If they are still wedged in that state of mind after 33 years, then it can reasonably be expected to take another 33 years to unwedge them. Not enough time for that.
Kerry has handled the whole flap well mostly by letting the not-so-swift boat vets shoot their own hull and sink.
And Tim Harkin came out and karate chopped Cheney for his cowardice.
