Offer equal space

The almost full-page coverage of John Kerry's Vietnam experience, by Stephen Braun of the Los Angeles Times, is quite revealing ("Kerry in Vietnam: Daring, Doubt," Aug. 8). The article shows a complex personality, a young man who, while doubtful of the war, chose to enter it. And while in it, act heroically. As the inset reveals, there are those who are willing to call Kerry a liar about his experience ("Anti-Kerry Ad Stirs Dispute").

Lest your paper be accused of favoring the Democrats by publishing such obviously pro-Kerry information, would you please give almost full-page coverage to President Bush's military career, especially his Vietnam record?

4. This is exactly why I think the Smear Boat Vets are so stupid.

You want to measure a man by his war service? OK. Let's measure Bush by his service.

Gore was a reporter back at camp. OK. So Bush could get away with it (especially after McCain decided it wasn't worth fighting this batte with Bush in the primaries).

However, Kerry is more than willing to talk about the kind of service he had in Vietnam.

Letters like this show what a curious road it is for Bush to take when he encourages the smear boat liars.
