| Poll of Jewish voters finds Kerry far ahead |
|
A poll conducted by the National Jewish Democratic Council gives John Kerry a commanding 75-22 percent lead over George W. Bush among Jewish voters. "The work that the Bush administration has done over the last three years to reach out to Jewish voters has been largely unsuccessful," says pollster Anna Greenberg. http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20040816-114755-1798r.htm

| 2. I think Jews are almost conditioned to support liberals. |
|
At least in countries where they represent a minority.
Look at the history of Jews in the US and the world. It isn't liberals that oppress, persecute, and kill Jews. One only has to visit freeperville to know how easily conservative prejudices can flip-flop.
Two years ago, freepers probably didn't care much for the French, but they didn't hate them. Now, anything remotely French is an object of extreme derision and hatred.
Ten years ago, Muslims were 'camel-jockeys', etc. Now, they are 'demon-possessed pedophiles' deserving of having their holy places nuked.
The ethnocentrism and nationalism of conservatives make them pretty dangerous to anyone who isn't 'one of them'. If you wear a turban, display a menorrah, or have a different skin color from the majority, putting conservatives into power is playing with fire.

| 3. That may go a long way toward explaining it. |
|
American Jews have no option but to see raw xenophobia as a possible danger to them, since even if they're not the 'hatred flavor of the week' this week, there's always another week. They've been there, before. They know how dangerous xenophobia and inciting hatred can be, and want no part of it, in large part.

| 4. Jews have always been the strongest |
|
liberal base, and I don't see why that would change anytime soon, really. If you look at the 2000 election, other than Mormons, who broke about 9 to 1 for Bush, Jews were the most one-sided demographic, voting for Gore in huge numbers. The idea that American Jews vote in US elections based on Israel policy is a myth, and the idea that American Jews can be manipulated as a group any more than any other demographic group is a myth as well. We are perfectly capable of making up our minds just like anyone else--as well evidenced by the original poster's poll.

| 7. You mean, 1 sided "religious" demographic. Because Blacks voted |
|
in a higher percentage for Gore than jews. Although I agree that blacks are more strongly "democratic" and jews are more strongly "liberal".
Regardless of this poll, however, we still have to police the portion of the left that has increasingly flirted with an effective anti-semitic left-wing model.

| 5. I'm glad the Jewish community is seeing through Bush's |
|
bullshit. He tries to pander to them by being seen as a strong supporter of Israel. I'm glad Jews haven't forgotten that he's still a prejudiced jerk who hates everyone who isn't an evangelical Protestant.

Fortunately they don't see through Bush's Israel policy. What demographic is Kerry not leading in at this point?? (Besides white racist trash and crooked CEO's)

| 11. interesting, Bush went after Jewish vote, Hispanics and Blacks |
|
and none fell for it. But when Nixon went after fundie Christians and the South, get got them. Is it Bush or is it the demographic? I think the demographic. Fundies and the South can't see past the abortion issue. Other groups vote their own interests and not one issue.

| 12. Well, that's a relief. I was a little concerned. |

Seriously. My husband and son are Jewish. My son attends Hebrew class every Wednesday and his Hebrew teacher, born and raised in Israel, told my husband that she was going to vote for BUSH because of his stance on Israel! I immediately printed out John Kerry's stance on Israel and sent it with my husband when he went to class the following week. She DID call the Kerry campaign and talked to one of his advisors and he reiterated Kerry's policies on Israel....so, she is now considering a vote for Kerry.
THEN, I told my husband to tell her about Prescott Bush and how he made his millions off of the concentration camps during WWII. She told him she had heard about that but wasn't so sure she believed it! :eyes: Does anyone have a legitmate source for that story? I'll print it out and send it with my husband tomorrow. ;) I have 3 more months to work on her.

Kerry in November. I don't know a lot of orthodox Jews but those I do know are hard core Bushies a la the Christian right. They even talk like the fundy Christians when it comes to the culture war issues.
This Jew is for Kerry (Kuhn)
