You’re being childish. Ridiculous, childish, and juvenile If I may add. Some Hillary supporters are way better than you. They lost; yet within only couple of days many of them came to support Obama. Why can’t you be more gracious when you’re the winners?!! Before we were attacking to defend Obama, and pass our message. What’s the purpose of your attacks now? Childish vendetta and gloating?!
Get a grip will ya?!!

The normal rules requiring support of the Democratic nominee, and regarding attacks, etc., on Democrats, that have been relaxed somewhat during the primary to allow for intramural debate, go back into full force.

In other words, will shit-stirrers of all stripes have to behave or get out?
I think we have had enough of threads like "I hate ____," "____ IS FUCKING INSANE!!!111!," etc.

| 31. Here Are The Forum Rules On That Subject, Sir |
|
"Democratic Candidates and the Democratic Party
"Constructive criticism of Democrats or the Democratic Party is permitted. When doing so, please keep in mind that most of our members come to this website in order to get a break from the constant attacks in the media against our candidates and our values. Highly inflammatory or divisive attacks that echo the tone or substance of our political opponents are not welcome here.
"You are not permitted to use this message board to work for the defeat of the Democratic Party nominee for any political office. If you wish to work for the defeat of any Democratic candidate in any General Election, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website.
"Democratic Underground may not be used for political, partisan, or advocacy activity by supporters of any political party or candidate other than the Democratic Party or Democratic candidates. Supporters of certain other political parties may use Democratic Underground for limited partisan activities in political races where there is no Democratic Party candidate.
"Do not post broad-brush smears against Democrats or the Democratic Party."
As you can see, the first and fourth apply to all Democrats, and to the Party as a whole, not just to candidates currently standing for office. The standards for "constructive criticism', 'highly inflammatory or divisive attacks' and 'broad-brush smears' necessarily contain some subjective element, and moderator consensus determines what does, and does not, meet these standards in specific instances.

|
these past few months: things like threads consisting of nothing more than unflattering pictures of a candidate, rehashes of 1990s freeper conspiracy theories ("Highly inflammatory or divisive attacks that echo the tone or substance of our political opponents"), etc.
I hope that this experiment in ignoring the rules and just letting 'er rip will not be repeated. It was a disaster, and I think it will take more than an arbitrary deadline to make this place civilized again--if any power on earth could do that to begin with, which is doubtful after what we have seen lately.

|
After all, in a contested primary, people do have to have the freedom to criticize, even attack, the opposing candidate. If we had kept to normal enforcement practices, there could not really have been much of a debate at all. We actually did a great deal more enforcement than most people realize, albeit based on a looser than usual interpretation of these rules: some of the worst stuff very few people saw because of our actions, some of the rest of our actions people saw but dismissed as 'bias' by us against their candidate rather than enforcement, and such complaints came from both sides. The sheer volume of posting, arising from the tremendous interest in the topic, was another complicating factor, and one that urged a more relaxed regime with great force. It is no exaggeration to say that at times alerts came in faster than we could process them, and rates of two or even three dozen alerts received in an hour were not uncommon. Even had we set ourselves to maintain the strictest standard conceivable, a great many things would necessarily have escaped our notice, and this could have only left an impression of arbitrariness, and even whimsicality, about our actions.

| 69. Your point is well taken, my friend, but there is one thing that concerns me: |
|
Last go around, people who did nothing but post flamebait and trash got bounced pretty quickly. This time, the worst offenders were allowed to post three flamebait threads every day--deliberately, I would add, and in full knowledge that their work would lead to shitstorms and locked threads--and keep at it. They are are still here, with few exceptions, flinging poo to their hearts' content, setting the tone for the whole forum and driving out people who actually have something to contribute to the discussions here.
I honestly don't understand the reluctance to bounce people who, say, wish cancer on other posters or constantly post the same flamebait over and over. It wasn't tolerated last time, but for some reason it is now, and my fear is that people cannot be expected to conduct themselves like sociopaths for months and then suddenly, one day at noon, begin acting like decent people. I really fear that the tone set in this forum in the past few months will persist and even spread into the rest of DU.

I really cannot comment on differences in approach, and why they might have been decided on by the proprietors.
It is a sad fact that Gresham's Law seems to apply as surely to debate as to money, but it is a function of volume and duration, and I suspect there is not really much that can be done about it.

We are doing everything we can to avoid such an outcome. No one really wants to expel members. People are being given every chance to get it out of their systems, to dial it down, and adjust to more usual manners: the fight, after all, among ourselves is over. Just about everybody, I am sure, will realize that, and come to be glad of it.

| 12. I can't deny that. I've been saying from the beginnign that they both need to grow up |
|
I just don't have the ability to start the thread. I would have been a bit more diplomatic.
Unlike what you're saying, I would have said that both of them have to realize we have one common goal and both need to grow up.
I'm sure you also are aware that some Hillary Clinton supporters have been instigating a bit of the situation. Multitude of posts and harassments. So I'm not going to say that the Clinton supporters are innocents in this because they're not.
However, what both need to realize is that we have to work together. If there are some petty individuals, eventually they will grow up or they will leave here. Let's just focus on one thing. Watching and backing Obama. When I say watching, I mean that he keeps his campaign tight for GE and he does what he says. So far, I've been impressed he has. Already he's changing the (except for Howard Dean!! Yippee!!) DNC and fixing things up so I'm excited about that. We need to support him also without restoring to childishness and pettiness.
We saw what happened to Hillary Clinton supporters at the DNC meeting, unhinged. I'm sure many of us Obama supporters dont' want to appear the same way for the netizens and realize that we've gotten the nomination now the focus is on party unity to get rid of McCain.
I'm tired of a recession and a war. Fuck it if you love Obama or if you love Hillary, that's done and it was never really about them. It has been and will always be about the US of A and making sure that we have better work conditions, shit---that we have bloody jobs. That we work out our social welfare program and definitely work out to get universal healthcare. To dump the idea of the rich versus poor and realize the working class needs to control their lives because the government works for us not the other way around---as it has been since Nixon. Some people may think Clinton was great in his presidency; however, he just didn't make things better or worse.
We do have to get a grip. Get organized and start working for a better future for ourselves and our kids.

Speaking of getting a life.
For the sake of my party and my country, I had to be mature enough to let go of TWO "my favorite candidate"s Kucinich (my first choice) and Edwards (my second choice) ... and accept the realities of primary politics: i.e. find my next best candidate, which was Obama IMHO.
Of course, since it's been down to only two, there's only ONE candidate left for former Hillary supporters.
This is just the reality of the situation, no?

Not all of them and as far as Hillary goes I for one will not stop my criticism of her just because it may hurt e-feelings on the internet. I haven't stopped my criticism of any of the others that have dropped out and their supporters are not going ape shit about it either. Hillary gets no golden pedestal from me just because she ran a shitty campaign and didn't win. Her race baiting and assassination comments did it for me and I'm not willing to forgive. I'm also not willing to kiss e-ass just because some folks are extra sensitive. I have many Hillary supporter friends IRL and we go back and forth with our criticism of our candidates. The difference is not one of my friends has ever said they would vote for McCain over Obama just because they did not win or because we disagree, that is the difference. I don't need to worry about the few on the internets who demand I not say this or that about Hillary or they will not vote for the nominee, it doesn't work that way. You can either take the criticism, debate it, ignore it, or move on those are the choices. As far as bashing well I think the bashing from Obama supporters is long held frustration from the crap that has been allowed to be posted on this site for at least the last four months: Rezcko, Wright, Sweetie gate oh let us not forget finger gate. Folks are letting all that out and I think they have the right to do so. If people don't want to see it, like I said hide thread, ignore or leave GDP. It's only gonna last for a week so I say let them have their week.

Obama won literally because of his message going like wild fire through the internet. Don't also forget that very few are as harsh in real life as they are on the internet.

I'll try to ignore them...but that may be asking a lot. It really should be easier NOT to post hate than not to defend the hated....but I'll try. No promises! In fact...I don't really know if I can do that!

I've defended my fellow Obama supporters, but some of the posts today need to be called on the carpet.

| 42. Now, there's a team builder. |

Why can't any of us say, we're tired, stressed and want this to be over. Some of us have been through more than one of our candidaes losing and that's really hard to do.
Now we're in this neverland until Clinton concedes, which she likely will do on Saturday. I get that you're upset and we're on the same page, really. We'll meet back up when we come down from this whole thing. We'll be fine.

| 49. She's going to be criticized as long as she's in public life and in politics |
|
and as long as this is a public forum. People STILL criticize Kerry. And SHE isn't even the nominee..so criticizing her is not even in the same ballpark as criticizing Obama for the next few months. I don't know how long you've been around-but there was still outrageous shit about Kerry even then. Get a grip, get some toughness. Edwards is a phony, Gore is a fake, Kerry voted for war and on and on. It never ends. If you think it ever really ends then you haven't been really paying much attention to DU.
And as far as vendetta-no. Some people actually believe she doesn't put or have the best interests of Democrats at heart. We can list four hundred things-but that's just called bashing. Why? She lost. Why is it bashing? Because she's a woman? Because she's married to Bill Clinton? Why is she off limits? Bashing is calling her a bitch-it's meaningless. Calling her for all her other shit is what this place is for.
I know why it's bashing-because you like her. Well many do not-just as they didn't like Kerry and Edwards and I DID. I got over it or I left. You Clinton supporters are a bunch of whiners.

I absolutely can't stop you if you wish to criticize her. My plea is that it's not productive at the moment. And we should be adults enough to know when we can hold our criticism for the time being in order to get what we want; their support. :hi:

And apparently, it's a hard lesson to learn.
All the Obama supporters should look to the example of their candidate. A wonderful gracious man who needs his supporters to follow his lead. He's just not willing to wallow. I'm proud to be one of his supporters, and find it difficult to deal with some of them.

| 73. I have no problem with the democrats who support[ed] Hillary. |
|
Actually, I feel for them because unless they are very selective about where they hang out, they will hear a lot of negative things about Hillary. But, adults understand where it comes from and deal with the facts of life. And, unless they are new supporters their skins should be pretty tough by now.
I get what you want but it's not going to happen...yet.
There is nothing ridiculous about ridiculing a conniving woman who says she experienced enough to run for president but dares to create stories about sniper fire and sticking to it after getting busted.
There is nothing childish about pointing out that a woman who thinks she's as tough as Rocky can't handle getting beat.
And there is nothing juvenile about the fact that I am pissed off at her, embarrassed by her, and disgusted by what she and her rabid, whoring-for-attention supporters represent.
I will not break my TV, throw my monitor or any other violent antics. But I will be getting it off my chest, here on DU, by typing out my outrage and frustrations. If someone feels to defend her BS with more BS then they can certainly handle anything I'd have to say.
