| Fine then, let's try this strategy |
|
My 18 year old kid. Okay all of you. 18.
I was commenting on Republicans all saying the same thing over and over. Here's what he said. In a very disgusted tone. 18.
"Well yeah, they're uniting to win the election. That's the point of being in a party, to win the election. You may not like everything that's said, or even agree with it, but if you want to win, you say what needs to be said. You don't get all whiny because you can't have your way, you unite and win the damn thing."
So if an 18 year old kid gets it, and he isn't even political, what's the problem around here???
Stop whining, follow Kerry's lead, and win the damn thing. Okay?

But it's going to mostly fall on deaf ears from the ones who need to hear it.
And before I start getting the "You're silencing us!" chorus, what the 18 year old is saying is "let Kerry run his race". He's winning right now; if he loses because he didn't follow your instructions on how to run his campaign, then bash him.

| 4. It's about Kerry winning. Since I don't |

run campaigns, I don't have "my way" of running a campaign.
However, my experience observing elections all the way back to Truman suggests to me that he needs to be more assertive and stand up against GOP attacks.
Bill Clinton talked recently about how his campaign succeeded by replying quickly to every piece of mud that was thrown. Clinton won two terms, the only Democrat to do so since FDR. Maybe "his way" is a good way to run a campaign.
Kerry doesn't have to throw mud but he -- or someone representing him -- needs to call the mudslingers on what they're doing and refute the lies told about him.
I'll be happy if he wins, no matter what. But I'll be astounded if he wins if he continues not responding to attacks.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. In the meantime, we need to be talking about troop redeployment, veterans care, and the struggle of American families. Get the election focused on the issues. If everybody's on the same page, you can't help but do better. And we're already winning as it is!
