The giant awakes...

Anyone else chuckling to themselves or others about the irony of the giant sloth (otherwise known as the media) awakening to actually do their flippin' job. I may be jumping the gun here, but the early signs encourage.

My hypothesis - The media, both institutionally and individually, sleep-walked through the run-up to what may be the biggest mistake America has ever made: pre-emptively attacking another country. They then felt partially responsible for not acting with diligence as the de-facto fourth arm of the government that it has become. Maybe they felt betrayed or "burned." (Anyone who watched on C-Span during the DNC Convention the Dan Rather, Peter Jennings, Tom Brokan, et. al forum would agree to this.) Now, we are beginning to see the awakening of this necessary branch of the government. The lies and half-truths that the * adminstration used to be able to without impediment hoist onto the American public are now coming into the appropriate focus.

Now, wouldn't the kind of investigative journalism that the New York Times and the kind of skeptisism lately espoused by Chris Matthews have been, ahem, useful in the aformentioned march to war?

I have been doing the happy dance. Yesterday I emailed everyone I knew and urged them to check out MSNBC. Then I went to every message board I belong to and PMed anyone I thought might be interested ins seeing Hardball.

everyones favorite - and there are mighty good reasons - but during THIS crucial time, at least we have somebody we can all cheer on as he is pursuing truth and wiping out the smears
