What the heck is up with Obama trying to be a moderate
DAMN!!!! this is major screwing up the rethugs are not going to love him just because he tries to shift to the center the campaign is giving him BAD advice and now he's being tagged with being a flip flopper just as Kerry was.

3. Obama's got to appeal to the middle, then attack McCain as an extremist.
"this is major screwing up"

Yet, it's working. He's beating the hell out of McCain, and getting way more moderates than Kerry was.

8. The funny thing is even if Dennis Kucinich ever got the nomination somehow.
...he'd lose in a landslide.

11. I know, and I like Dennis.
There are many politicians whose ideals and votes I like, and who could never get elected president. Since my personal views place me in the leftmost 30% of the population, I know that whoever Democrats can win with as president will be someone to the right of me. This is simple logic. It's not a surprise. It's been that way for the past 8 straight presidential elections.

Anyone who knows they're over here on the left has to know our successful nominee will not be lined up with us on every vote.

13. Exactly. And Kucinich CAN'T play the center, so he'd never win.

12. 37% Independant, 36% Democrat, 27% Republican
Edited on Wed Jul-09-08 06:32 PM by mikekohr
With leaners added, Democrats enjoy a historic level of 54%, however neither party can carry a national race without the "Great American Middle." Stray to far from the center and we lose.

The only reason McCain is even in this race is because of the perception that he is an independant minded middle of the road Republican (he is not, but you can be sure he will do nothing to dispell that misperception, he wants to win after all).

Push Obama to the far left and he'll get upset in November. Or we could let him continue to run the historic campaign he has thus far run and we can win for a change. And don't loose sight of the fact we have lost 7 of 10 of the last presidential election. It's time we even up those numbers.
