Just like McCain praised Obama in front of the NAACP yesterday in an attempt to pander to them, Obama should speak in front of the AARP and praise McCain saying something like, "Don't tell McCain I said this, but I really think it's great that someone his age was able to win the Repub. nomination. He really has a lot of energy and seems to still have many of his mental faculties. America's still a work in progress, but this is a big step to nominate someone so OLD!" Just sayin'...

I'm pretty sure he's too old to be an air traffic controller or a commerical airline pilot. Both of those have upper age limits.

I am one of them. And their minority membership are some of their most passionate. The DC contingent was the majority to show up to assure the Medicare override of Bush's veto on Tuesday:



It was a huge win and a punch in the nose to Bush, and whatever the (many)criticisms and ridicule here on DU about AARP, they stopped Social Security privatization and helped a good Medicare bill become law:

AARP has been hammered here since the prescription drug bill in 2003. But since then, they have been vital - maybe singularly important - in holding the social safety net together against the Bush onslaught. I'm a little sensitive, admittedly, but they get no credit for that work here, and they have 40 million members, many of whom work passionately for the issues we believe in here on DU. I will say that they are only going to grow stronger in coming years, and we ought to make sure our voices are heard there, not just hammer them for 2003.

I have met many of their volunteers. Great folks. I apologize to you for that line. Didn't mean to seem humorless. This AARP member in 20 years expects to tell the nursing home to "crank it up" whenever Jimi Hendrix is on the radio.

28. I don't think that McCain was pandering to his Black audience.

John McCain knows darn well,
that he cannot get the votes of most Black people,
and he didn't go speak to them in hopes that they might.

I think that he was pandering to moderate Whites
who don't want to feel like racists just because
they choose to vote against Obama and for McCain.
These voters want to feel like their candidate is not a racist,
and John McCain is more than happy to oblige.
