Senator Dole, I was very disappointed in your comments about Senator Kerry not deserving his Purple Hearts. I too am a veteran as you are and Senator Kerry is and my feelings are unexplainable how now it seems that our country is divided and now our veterans are becoming divided. I lay this at the feet of our current President.

I was however shocked at your comments and have always had the utmost respect for you as a individual, senator of the State of Kansas next to my Missouri and as a candidate for President. I still do,but do not understand how you could have made those comments other than for politics.

You know as well as I the scrutiny and research that goes into handing out medals and I am now afraid this President is going to cheapen them. He has attacked three veterans now and it should stop. Perhaps someone of your stature and others can get this nonsense ended and lets get on with the debates that need to be put forward with the American people and for our future generations, not go back 35 years.

I was shocked at your comments because I have always had the utmost respect for you as an individual, a Senator and as a former candidate for President. I do not understand how you could have made those comments other than for political gain.

You know as well as I the detailed scrutiny and research that goes into awarding medals and I am now afraid that you and this President are going to cheapen them and the veterans who won them fair and square. Perhaps someone of your stature can move the conversation back to what's important for the American people now, rather than rehashing the past accomplishments of brave Americans into material for partisan political attacks.

1/2 of all the purple hearts awarded in Vietnam didn't require hospitalizations. This smear is disgusting
