John McCain Condemns Negative Campaigning - Proclaims His Positive Campaign

Of course, this was back in 2000 when John McCain said that he would not take the low road to the Presidency, and proclaimed that his campaign was "optimistic." So, is John McCain a hypocrite or just forgetful:

JIM LEHRER: And that brings us to a discussion of negative campaigning. The tone on the Republican side has also very turned harsh. Terence Smith begins our coverage.

SEN. JOHN McCAIN: You're putting out stuff that is unbelievable, George, and it's got to stop.

TERENCE SMITH: As the Republican race has tightened in the three weeks since the New Hampshire primary, the leading candidates have become distinctly less chummy in their references to each other.

SEN. JOHN McCAIN: I will not take the low road to the highest office in this land. I want the presidency in the best way, not the worst way. A clear choice will be offered, a choice between my optimistic and welcoming conservatism and the negative message of fear.

5. "Audacity of Hopelessness" - Yup, sounds optimistic to me...

If the MSM were not carrying McCain's water, his campaign would be history. He spends his entire campaign bitching about Obama, and makes no effort to defend the Bush/McCain policies. On energy, he just repeats the Bush refrain of more drilling, yet gas prices have soard under republican rule. On economic policy, he repeats the refrain of less regulation, despite the mortgage industry meltdown. On foreign affairs, he hails the military as the universal cure all despite the 8 years of Bush that establish otherwise. Yet, even when McCain screws up, the MSM gives him a free pass on the ground calling it an innocent little senior moment.
