7. Here's a gasp of the not so obvious....

Kerry kicked O'Neill's ass. That's clear from the transcript.

But here's a subtle point. O'Neill was favoring Nixon's Vietnamization plan. Under O'Neill's scenario, we would have slowly withdrew by arming the puppet regime. Under that scenario, no POW would have been released. In 1971, Kerry was working for a negotiated settlement, which would have withdrawn our troops.

In that take on things, O'Neill supported keeping McCain in prison longer than necessary to achieve the same outcome.
