| 3. This is a pivotal moment in America. |
|
And being that these two are the great men they are, with great wives to support (and probably really run things), we are going to move into the 21st century. Finally.

| 7. It's often too easy (and glib) to say that of people one doesn't know personally. |

We like to believe ourselves able to "look into the heart" of another ... and we all can be fooled. (I sure have been.) Nonetheless, we MUST trust our instincts and trust ourselves ... or we can NEVER trust another. And if we DON'T trust others, the trust in ourselves is a total and utter waste.
You and I know this. We've been there ... when it was REAL (surreal) and immediate. If there's one COMMON Viet Nam experience (among the painfully uncommon experiences) it was in discovering such trust. Trust in ourselves and trust in our buddies. Love. Respect. Even when buried in Mickey Mouse horse shit. For ourselves and for others. If anything, that's why "coming home" was a horror for me, where that trust was assailed in ways nightmarish. Out of the INSANITY of Viet Nam I brought the SANITY of knowing that we COULD trust one another. Holding onto that sanity over the years, especially when it was spat upon, has been my MAJOR triumph. I will never surrender that.

| 9. Yep - Burn away the artifice of society, and the human form comes forth. |
|
I think people stripped of that artifice know the most powerful bonds people can know.
The bond that occurs when trust is all there is to keep away the void.
To live without that artifice is nearly impossible. To live without trust IS impossible.
