| Over 100 anti-Bush protesters in Huntsville, AL!!! |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 10:41 PM by Dhalgren
Today more than 100 people lined the streets of the downtown, 5-points area of Huntsville, AL carrying signs that criticized Bush!! Huntsville is a republican bastion, for that many people to brave the streets down here against Bush is huge! No one believed we would get this many - and they stayed almost all day! It doesn't sound like much, but for down here, it is big - all of the local news carried fairly long segments covering the protest.

I live in Orange County, Ca. (I know, long story). Anyway, for the FIRST time ever we saw about 10 people on a very busy corner, in the City of Orange, waving and carrying Kerry/Edwards signs!
We may have been the only car to honk, per request of other signs, but it was great to see this! This county is starting to change, finally!

So nice to see and much needed to be accurately reported in a GOP dominated area.
Yay!

| 6. ROFLMAO! One of my brothers lives there! |

But I don't understand where "Republican bastion" comes from?? I've visited a bunch of times and it seems WAY more liberal than the rest of the state. Brother #3 says that he sees way more Kerry/Edwards stickers and signs than Bush/Cheney. And the guy he voted for for mayor (sorry, I forget the name) -- he looked the dude up and found out he was a huge Dean supporter! And I think that guy won, right?

| 9. No, he hasn't won, yet. |

There's to be a run-off between him and the incumbent mayor. But it looks like he has a fair chance. His name is Parker Griffith and we all have high hopes. Huntsville IS very progressive when compared to the rest of the stste, but that is primarily due to the level of education and level of income in this area. The overall political flavor of this area though is set by the huge number of military and space-related industry. Everybody has a government contract and these types tend to track Republican. There are, though, a growing number of anti-bush people in the area and that IS encouraging!
