OK not all of them, but I think a large percentage of them are people that he has made unhappy with his wars and deficits, but at the end of the day they will decide he is a "moral" man and will vote for him. That's just my gut feeling, I hope I'm wrong.

I don't think we've ever seen a president that has made this many people in his base this angry and it's going to be interesting to see how it turns out.

Both Kerry and Bush's bases (about 35-40% of the total vote each) are already solid for them. About 90% of Republicans will vote for Bush, and about 90% of Democrats for Kerry.

We're talking about undecideds. And undecideds historically shift by a margin of 60%-80% to the challenger. That even happened in '72 and '84, when McGovern and Mondale were both beaten in landslides, but still picked up a majority of undecideds.

About 40% of undecideds will probably go with Bush, but about 60% will go with Kerry. Whether or not that will propel Kerry to victory is completely dependent on how well he's doing come November.

15. The Undecideds I've talked to just need a nudge to Kerry

At this point, anyone who is undecided has really been out of the loop or doesn't know the importance of this election.

Usually, they are vastly uninformed about issues that actually affect them. I've personally talked some undecideds and even people who put Bush/Cheney stickers on themselves at large events to go for Kerry due to healthcare costs or a boiled-down explainer about how we would not be this war if Gore got elected (for Nader sniffers) or Kerry (for Bush 2000 voters who are confused, pissed, have someone in Iraq they know, aren't Jesus freaks hellbent on being anti-choice...)

I think by the time the final election polls are taken undecided voters will be statiscally insignifigant and the lead by either candidate will be within the MoE and irrelevant as well.

The only poll that counts is the one on November 2.

IMHO most swing voters ultimately vote for themselves. This means if things have gotten better over the last four years personally, they vote for the incumbent. If they have become worse, they vote against the incumbent. Only the most idealogical..ie partisan activists vote for the person they consider the most moral candidate.

And usually their partisan loyalty is strongly connected to their cultural roots.
