Oh, wait, the protests were peaceful, not huge PR disaster.
Never mind.

I saw with my own eyes (on CSPAN) a big paper mache thingy on fire that 3 firefighters had to put out with fire extinguisher cans.
It was AWWWWWWWWWWWFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLL! :smoke:

by the right wing bitch on the local newscast, who crowed about the "hundreds of arrests!" and the "float on fire!!"
I would dearly love to get the so-called anarchists who lit that fire and personally choke the living shit out of each punk. THAT is the image people here in flyover country are getting, not the hundreds of thousands of peaceful people saying NO! to Bush.

"Fuck Fox News" and flipping the bird! I was surprised how long CSPAN kept the cameras on them (FCC indecency and all).

Were the protestors dressed in Business Attire? If not, I'm afraid they sent the Wrong Message.

|
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 08:30 AM by Jack Rabbit
Violence will play into the hands of the yuppie fascists.
Please remain calm, no matter what. Do something colorful, but not destructive.
Assume that anyone who tries to incite violence is an agent provocateur; ignore him.
Large, peaceful demonstrations will drive home the fact that millions of everyday Americans do not and will not accept Bush's leadership as wise, benevolent or legitimate. That will greatly advance the cause of ousting the junta in November.

Actually, I have been quite pissed about all those threads: "You NYC crazies will lose the election for us with your violence! Stay home and shut up!" I stayed away from DU because of them. Guess who played in whose hands? I know Bloomberg for one was happy so many were helping his efforts to inhibit turnout!

| 16. I never figured violence would be the main event. |
|
Although it could still happen, they'll make just as much political hay out of the people chanting, banging drums, carrying signs, and wearing colorful costumes as they would protesters breaking glass or turning over cars. The image will be "Does this man/woman with spiked hair, multiple piercings and tatoos, carrying an anti-Bush sign, screaming out protest slogans, and wearing a butterfly costume really represent you?" I've thought all along that was the image they were hoping for and so far they've haven't been dissapointed. We'll see how it all plays out.

| 23. I think the 1000 coffin procession was brilliant |
|
It really struck a chord, was tasteful, and demonstrated support for the troops.
The other brilliant piece to this protest is that the majority of undecided voters are opposed to the war.

I think everyone in their right mind realises that violence would onlt have played into the hands of the pukes.
It was the same in the 1960s--although we should note that back then, much of the violence came from the POLICE and/or undercover agents.
