| 4. It would have been a guaranteed winning ticket, you know. |
|
It would also have fractured the Republican Party. Kerry would have been insane not to try it if he thought he had a chance of succeeding.

If it ends up broken off in Kerry's ass it will have been his own doing.

| 14. It may have been..again as I commented below..if it did happen |
|
(even though I am not a MC Cain supporter though I did respect him in the past) then McCain had a chance to unify the country..but I guess straight talk is no longer his deal.

He's certainly better than the average Republican right now; unfortunately that's not saying much. I'm not so sure his defection would unify the country, either; the wingers are too fired up over their religion. But if McCain had defected, it would have pulled away about 5% of the most moderate Republicans, leaving the rest as the more extremist, plus it would have set tongues wagging about just how far to the right the Republicans have moved. It would have been a huge win, reshaping the political landscape, which is something you can't fashion through hard and smart campaigning. If Kerry really did try this, he went for a hail Mary that didn't click -- as most of them do not -- but it shows a guy with some vision.

I have been hearing that on tv all day. At the time this was all going done I thought it was just a rumor. I had no idea it was actual FACT until today.

in IRaq...btw...for all the straight talk bullshit McCain claims..if Kerry DID ask him, it was an opportunity to unify the country from all the partisanship and he turned it down...guess he just wants straight talk from everyone else...ya think? ;-)

| 15. According to Kerrya nd McCain...he was never asked |
|
this is what McCain said to WP today:
"But there has been a marked shift in the warmth with which McCain has discussed Bush in recent weeks -- and, more subtly, in how he talks about Kerry. While much has been made of their friendship, McCain, according to sources close to him, has grown weary of Kerry's constant mentions of it. He publicly objected to Kerry's reference in a recent ad to Bush's campaign tactics against McCain in 2000. (Kerry promptly pulled the ad.)"
Asked if Kerry has overstated the closeness of their bond, McCain says, "Yes and no."
snip
"Yes, in that we've spent a lot of time working on issues, flying to Vietnam, doing a lot of that kind of professional Senate work," McCain says. "No, in that I've never socialized with him. I've never been to his house for dinner. We've never invited him out to Arizona."
