| I'll probably never earn the Purple Heart before I retire from the USAF |
|
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 06:16 PM by MrScorpio
I've never been in combat. I've never fired a shot at the enemy, nor has the enemy ever shot at me. I've spent the last 21 years in the Air Force in a one of those jobs where danger isn't common. I'd probably say that the closest that I've been in danger was the 21 months that I served in Korea. That was way back in the 80's.
That's pretty much the nature of our branch of service. There are a relative few of us who meet the dangers of combat first hand.
Sometimes, we come across another one of our fellow airmen who have earned the Purple Heart. It's a beautiful ribbon that's normally at the forefront of that person's ribbon rack. It always invites the question as to how they've earned it. No other medal does that. We find out that the recipient was involved in an terrorist attack, or shot or survived from being too close to an artillery round.
Our only expectation is that we'll hear an interesting story and we never, under any circumstance, doubt that the wearer did not earn that prestigious medal. Not matter how slight or severe the injury, we know that the man or woman possessing a Purple Heart has truly earned it.
That's what so galling about what's happening in New York right now.
That's what so infuriating about what those rat-fuckers are doing in their three-ringed circus of a convention. The utter disrespect for a serviceman who was proven in combat and received wounds in battle, when they profess their respect and admiration for the military, is a penultimate hypocrisy.
This Purple Heart band-aid display is a travesty. Plain and simple.
This is just a just another reason to hate these asshole Republicans.
Why, in God's name, are so many of my brothers and sisters in arms enamored with these fucked in the head replicants? I just don't understand it.
So how do we dump these turds?
Well, to fix this situation I think it's appropriate to paraphrase the great Jack Nicholson, who so cannily said in the movie Batman; "This country needs an enema."

both my husband (USN Chief RET) and I (served as a medic with the Mexican Red Cross for 10 years) have been in the line of fire, and in real danger. You are not missing a thing.
That said, what the repukes have done is disparage every service member who ever won the Purple Heart (thankfully my husband did not). They are disparaging the military... they are showing their true colors.
Oh and thank you for your service

This would make a fine, fine, LTTE. Right from the gut, as everyone's reaction to this disgusting slap should be.
You may want to do a bit of editing first, though! :hi"

| 3. I think all the purple heart bandage wearers... |
|
are despicable and stupid, to boot. They disparage those soldiers still recovering from war wounds from WWII through the Iraq War. They mock all veterans, and all of those who have served in the military they've never served in. I'd like to go up to them and rip the bandaids and half the skin off of all of their soft, white flabby arms, round them all up, put their asses in boot camp and ship them off to Iraq.

| 4. "Months of sheer boredom, punctuated by a few seconds of stark, screaming. |

terror," was how I once heard military life described. And damned accurately for all that.
Though I must say that I always found the stories associated with the Soldier's Medal (Airman's Medal for your AF equivalent) to be more fascinating than the PH stories. Those are non-combat stories of heroism, where the recipient is NOT required to do the things he/she did as part of duty. Multiple Army studies have shown that recipients of Soldier's Medals are prouder of them than are the recipients of any other decoration.
Anyway, yes you're spot-on. By sporting the purple heart band-aids, these fuck-knuckles have shown their true colors: yellow. They neither appreciate the sacrifice of vets, nor will they pause for a moment before using the lowest of low tactics. They preach of patriotism, but they haven't the slightest inkling of what TRUE patriotism is.
So, I've already forwarded some of Walt Starr's research about Dubya's unearned ribbon to some of my local media outlets. We'll see if they report any of it.

with a pin. Put a band aid on it. Listening to what those Swift Boat freaks say, that's about all that happened to Kerry. <sarcasm>
Thank you for your service to our country. I'm glad you have stayed safe. I wish that were true of all the young men and women who have served.
I hope there is a HUGE backlash on this band aid crap. These people are immoral turds.
Clinton said it best. What these creeps are doing in bearing false witness. Last time I checked there were still 10 Commandments and "Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness Against Thy NEighbor" was one of them. Guess it doesn't apply if you are Fundy trash.

There is nobody who has won a Purple Heart, in battle, who hasn't earned it.
These bastards make me sick to my stomach. My daughter-in-law is in Iraq right now. My son returned from Afghanistan earlier this year. (Both in the Air Force.) My husband is retired Army. I spent nine years in the Army, myself. Every generation of my family has served in every war this country has been engaged in, including the Civil War - on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line - and for these sons-of-bitches to belittle that service by mocking the valor of a fellow veteran sets my nerves on end.
Chickenhawks, Kiss my ASS!
