| Rejoice! They've totally screwed up their convention. |
|
The whole point was to bring out their "moderate" "stars" and try to put a happy face on their ugliness, but somehow they had the "nice guys" play so tough that they've blown their crossover appeal.
McCain--whom I loathe--told us that nobody but a fool would not have attacked Hussein. Conflating Iraq with the war on terror is an increasing stretch, even with the ignorant.
Schwarzenegger, with his "you know you're a Republican" riff reminded us that you are a useless loser if you're not part of the core loyalists. He said that Humphrey was a Socialist, and everything Nixon said rang true and made him a Republican on the spot. Ug, Nixon good. That'll play with moderates... Note to Herr Schickelgroper: Nixon has NOT been rehabilitated with non-Republicans, and your job was to appeal to non-Republicans.
Then there's the "girly man" crap. Put aside sexuality and other issues for the moment, the dismissal of all who don't fall in goosestep with you as inferiors doesn't play well at large. More people have been bullied than bully, so play the odds. When he was saying that you don't worry about Polls when going to war, it sounded too much like not worrying about Poles when overrunning a country.
They shot their wad. The very few people who can be considered as moderates came off as violent, pompous and dismissive of "others". What stupidity.
They want to laud "steadfastness" as they gird their loins for accession to the monarchy they've determined that they deserve, but blockheadedness reeks from their every word.
These guys are amateurs, and their meanness shows. Rove is no Atwater, and Bush isn't even Ford, much as he's revived Gerry's Cabinet.
What are they going to do? Fake a "bounce", just to see it drop? Not get one and dismiss it as a decided electorate? Whatever they do, they've gained nothing from this, and they've squandered what little appeal to the sane they had.
They brought out the nice guys, and they were smug, mean and reckless; all I can say is "good".

Ya know, you could hardly hope for a better house than a Republican Convention: it's a great room to play. They're all with you, they want to shout U-S-A like something out of a cross between a cockfight and "Triumph of the Will", and they're remarkably forgiving with their attention. Even so, they couldn't muster much of a yuk for the punchlines of the twins; in fact, using "Sex In the City" lines (a dang homo show about adultery) and OutKast (hey, they's darkies, ain't they?) just show a weird disconnect with the faithful and some clunk attempt to be cosmopolitan. Hell, you reach out with people who LIKE that stuff, not with tight-assed uberchristers.
It was just dreadfully unfunny, and delivered with "ain't I cute" self-consciousness. What a disaster.

a little unnecessarily harsh. Would it be possible that we attribute too great a degree of intelligent planning to their actions? I should think McCain, Miller, and the Turdnegator might actually serve as no more than trophies, as shiny baubles, with any additional value mere serendipity. The appeal of their fundamental philosophy is, after all, not particularly sophisticated. This would certainly agree with my own view of their wastrel oriented, show off style of dog-in-the-manger politics. Simple "if you believe...then you are..." type pronouncements are easy to cheer and, for the intellectually lazy, require no real thought or in depth consideration. The real problem, I suppose, with one person, one vote is that if it takes one million votes to get elected, it doesn't matter if those votes are just knee-jerk reactions or the results of intense, rational thought.

| 7. You forgot the "Gigglely Twins" & their "Payback on Live TV" |
|
That part about the payback on live TV - its an actual quote...right in between the giggles and stupid comments....they succeeded....their payback to embarress Dad worked....they were an utter embarressment....
This convention has been an absolute joke...I actually got to say, I'm feeling pretty confident....the only thing I've found "worrisome" in the last 48 hours were the increased number of "Swift Boat Liar Ads" on TV....otherwise, I think this convention will possibly turn people off from Bush quicker than we could have ever hoped....

I was at the gym and could see the fugly twins on the TVs, fortunately from a distance. From what I could see, they had nothing to say at all. It looked like they were up there saying, "um, cool, um, like this is cool, um... like cool!" :hi:

You didn't miss anything Swamp'r! It probably came across better without the sound on....they are, truly, just like their father, chips off the old block.....
btw: Did you see when Bu$h spoke to introduce Laura, that there was a baseball game in the background and every time a batter was up, they were swinging the bat at the back of his head? Bwahahahaha....guess Rove didn't plan that one out very well....

and they will get themselves all caught up in it. They show their true colors out of a false sense of security and entitlement. In a large group, they show how repugnant they are, because they feel free to express themselves in the company of so many other drones.
Bounce will be fictional. Numbers will hold. Debates will decide. bhg's hopeful prognostications.....
