| Giuliani cannot be nominated for by Republicans for president in 2008 |
|
He is definently an electable general election candidate, but he would never make it through the Christian Right dominated Republican primaries. Giuliani is pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-stem cell research and pro-gun control. He has had extra-marital affairs and has lived with a gay couple while he was divorced. Trust me, Republicans in a South Carolina primary WILL NOT tolerate that kind of stuff, and other Republicans, seeking to curry favor with the fundamentalist wackos, will be happy to bring up those issues in the campaign. Giuliani might be able to win a New Hampshire primary, where the religious right is not so strong, but almost all of the early primary states would be prolematic for him: Iowa, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Minnesota, he'd just get drilled in those states where the Republican Party is controlled by the religious right. And if Texas holds their GOP primary early in 2008, that could be a knockout punch for him. Anyway, don't worry about Rudy in '08. The Republicans themselves will see to it that he is never nominated. I'd be more worried about him running against Hillary in 2006.

| 2. I think that they would have a hard time getting McCain through... |

... the primaries. The religious right are going to be the downfall of that party. Once their boy king is gone their strangle hold over the government is ruined. The republican party will be set back 20 years.

| 9. Oh, we in Pennsylvania will take care of that in 2006. |
|
We'll make sure when he runs for re-election in 2006, we'll give him the boot, but good.
Pennsylvanians ... we need to start working RIGHT NOW to get someone to WIN against Sanctimonium.
If that means Chris Matthews, that means Chris Matthews (he's talked about wanting to run for Senate from PA someday -- after he gets attacked by hooded protesters a couple more times, he'll be hankering for the cushy safety of the Senate chamber).

the Republican Party secretly desires to steer the platform away from the extreme right and fundamentalist christians, towards the center, and wants a moderate republican candidate in 2008. Then they would want an "appealing" candidate in order to get their agenda changed.
Giuliani could be that candidate. The party would bank on his (alleged) popularity to override objections by the far right faction, which would be relegated to the periphery again.
While I would like to see the far right de-clawed for the timebeing, I'm not sure having Giuliani and his proven record of running New York City like a police state to be a great alternative to * or his successors.

It will be Pataki in 2008. The dirt about Rudy is not widely known outside of NY. Unless there is a major turn in America's consciousness in the next 4 years, Rudy is and will never be electable to National office. He will however be running for Governor of NY to replace Pataki who has term limit.
