On nearly every issue, vast majorities of Americans align themselves with the Democratic platform.

I think the hard-core Democrats/Republicans are about equal.
Likely, most are swing voters who don't vote straight ticket. I know, I was one for a long time (though I leaned Dem).

or more people who agree with the Democratic platform. Has always been that way. But they also tend to be more apathetic and vote less and be less motivated. The rebublicans number less--I think much less, but they tend to be better organized and vote more.

I can't recall if the article referred to self-identified Democrats or officially registered Democrats.
Anyway, demographically, the edge should go to Democrats and independents. You'd think the U.S. was 65 percent white male Republican earning $100,000-plus per year, from the way the media go on.

| 11. Around the time of the 2000 election... |
|
... the breakdown of registered voters was something like 39% Republican, 49% Democrat, and the remainder independents, Libertarian, Green and the other minor parties.
