their opponents. They don't have to discuss any issues at all. They don't even have to talk about the "war" or 9/11. They only have to call people "flip-floppers", "liars", "too sensitive", "traitors", or whatever code word they need to destroy the character of their opponents. The media is always more than willing to parrot their charges and nicknames. Issues are not important.

It's always an uphill battle when they are permitted to get away with such tactics. If they are not slapped down when they first mention "flip-flopper" or whatever codeword they decide to start their character assassination with, then they will continue their "style" of politics. But they have to be called early. Once they are permitted to spread their shit all over he airwaves, it is very difficult to compete in the political arena. It is not impossible, but it is difficult.
