| Email I rec'd today, need good rebuttal - |
|
My dad is a libertarian but is also quite anti-Obama. I'd love a few quips in response to the following:
143 days .....
You couldn't be a new lawyer with 143 days of experience and become a partner in any law firm.
You couldn't get a job at McDonalds and become district manager after 143 days of experience.
You couldn't become chief of surgery after 143 days of experience of being a surgeon.
You couldn't get a job as a teacher and be the superintendent after 143 days of experience.
You couldn't join the military and become a colonel after a 143 days of experience.
You couldn't get a job as a reporter and become the nightly news anchor after 143 days of experience.
BUT....
'From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of "experience" in the Senate. That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working.
After 143 days of work "experience," Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World ..... 143 days.
We all have to start somewhere. The senate is a good start, but after 143 days, that's all it is - a start. AND, strangely, a large sector of the American public is okay with this and campaigning for him. We wouldn't accept this in our own line of work, yet some are okay with this for the President of the United States of America ?

| 7. So this assumes what? That he just walked out of the void when |
|
he was elected to the senate? He has no history beyond that? Okay. Whatever.
And what do you mean by "A libertarian BUT he's also anti-Obama?" Libertarians are the worst sort of economic free-marketeers. As the saying goes, a libertarian is just a republican who wants to smoke pot and screw prostitutes. Or, as I refer to them, libertarians are the spoiled 8 year olds of the political sphere...

|
The Presidency is not a job. Obama ran; he got the nomination. If he wins the election; he's president. It's a vote, not a decision by a higher up who also works in or owns a company.
also, the Failin' the Republicans have given up that card.

It is not simply a question of experience. Obama's qualifications extend beyond his time in the Senate. You have to consider his years in the Illinois State Legislature, 12 years as a constitutional law professor, Harvard law review, etc.
Also, Obama has demonstrated better judgment on issues like the Iraq war than many others with more Washington experience.

| 21. Thank you. I sent that. I think he's pissed at me now. I know it's an attempt |
|
at futility.
Here's part of what I responded with as well: I suspect that the anti-Obama rants are either blatant or an attempt at making inconspicuous a racist POV. The second McCain chose Palin the whole non-experience rants from the right should have mellowed considerably. Certainly a more compelling argument would have been about issues and not his experience?

Your options for starting pitcher are a rookie fireballer with a 97MPH heater who went 10-2 with an ERA of 2.08 after being called up from the minors just after the All Star break and a 15 year MLB veteran who went 11-14 for you this season with an ERA of 4.32. Which pitcher would you pick to give you the best chance of winning?

Edited on Sat Oct-04-08 03:46 PM by Nevernose
Would you let a 72 year old perform surgery on you? Would you be happy if your local school board hired a 72 year old to be the superintendent? Would you hire a 72 year old with a history of medical problems to run the world's biggest corporation? Would the military even let a 72 year old still be on active duty, even as a rear officer?
Obama has a lot more than 143 days of experience, by the way. Ten years or so was spent in public service, but the rest was in the private sector. John McCain's spent his entire life -- from the womb until today -- sucking from the public teat.

He finished #1 in his class at Harvard Law, and became the first black president of the harvard law review.
He's worked in the community as an organizer, helping those disenfranchised organize to obtain rights.
He was a CONSTITUTIONAL LAW professor for 12 YEARS.
He was an Illinois State Senator for 8 years in a state with over 13 million people and passed mabny reforms such as historic healthcare reform in the state.
He served in the U.S. Senate for 4 years, where he has served on the Foreign Relations Committee.
He has passed bi-partisan legislation on ethics as well as legislation keeping nukes out of the hands of terrorists.
He's run a flawless presidential campaign for 2 years that defeated the "inevitable" clinton machine.
I think he can handle it.
(also mention he's had more experience than Lincoln had when he was elected)
