I've put forth the hypothesis that Jar-Jar was at least Force-friendly considering the number of scrapes he got into and then got out of. He was unintentionally using the force to keep himself alive at major parts of the first film.
My friends hate me ever since I've insisted that the Ewoks were the best thing to happen to a Star Wars film. :)
