Prediction: McCain will bring up Obama's Foreign Donors at Tomorrow's Debate
Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 12:18 AM by kennetha
Check this out:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/06/politics/main4505113.shtml">GOP Demands Probe Into Obama Fundraising

Looks to me like part of the GOP plan to paint Obama as "other" and not quite one of us, subject to foreign influences and all that. The GOP tried this before, as I recall, with Bill Clinton back in 1996. So I wouldn't at all be surprised if McCain tried the same tactic. Expect him to hammer on two themes: (a) that Obama has taken money from many foreign donors and (b) that Obama won't disclose who his small donors, who gave less than $200 dollars, are. (McCain apparently does so even though he is not required to do so.)

McCain will hint that the reason that Obama refuse to disclose the names of his small donors is that many of those donors may be non-Americans. It will be part of the "who is the real Barack Obama" meme that he is trying desperately to create and make stick.

He will probably also hammer Obama on his change of heart about taking public money.

1. McNugget has own foreign donor problems.
The Obama team said McCain has his own problem with foreign donors.

From the Obama campaign.....

"Because of campaign finance issues, John McCain has had to return over $1.2 million to donors who potentially violated the law with their contributions. We look forward to a thorough investigation into whether John McCain's campaign has returned all of the money it raised from foreign nationals, as they have admitted McCain-bundler Harry Sergeant has done. Without accepting a dime from the Washington lobbyists or corporate PACs that have funded John McCain's campaign, our campaign has shattered fundraising records with donations from more than 2.5 million Americans. We have gone above and beyond the transparency requirements by disclosing our bundlers and the levels of contributions they raise. We constantly review our donors for any issues and while no organization is completely protected from internet fraud, we will continue to review our fundraising procedures to ensure that we are taking every available to step to root-out improper contributions," said Obama-Biden spokesman Bill Burton.

The McCain campaign has refunded more than $1.2 million: According to the FEC reports filed by McCain 2008, the campaign has refunded to donors $1,231,005.16.

In August, McCain refunded $50,000 solicited by a foreign national, possibly contributed by foreign nationals: In August 2008, McCain's campaign refunded about $50,000 in donations solicited by Jordanian Mustafa Abu Naba'a, acknowledging questions "about how much a foreign national may have contributed." Other donors were sent a letter "reminding them that it is illegal for a foreign national to contribute to a U.S. political campaign." http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/08/us/politics/08mccain.html?_r=1&oref=slogin>

Independent Group Files Complaint Over McCain Raising Money from Foreign Nationals: "A watchdog group said Monday it filed a complaint with U.S. election officials over a fundraiser Republican presidential hopeful John McCain held in London. Judicial Watch argues that providing a venue for the event free of charge was an illegal in-kind contribution from two foreign nationals, The Hill reported. The newspaper identified the two donors only as Lord Rothschild OM GBE and The Honorable Nathaniel Rothschild." http://thehill.com/campaign-2008/group-files-complaint-over-mccains-london-fundraiser-2008-04-28.html>

2. Wow they are good
So maybe McCain won't have the balls to bring this up tomorrow. Didn't know about this update. We'll see.

3. Not tomorrow, it's tough to say those things when your opponent is standing on stage with you.
Obama can turn it around on him and make him look like a desperate asshole. Obama can also bring up the fact that we still don't know anything about Palin b/c she hides from the media and has only been out of Alaska for 5 weeks. That leads to Palin and the AIP. I really think that for now, McCain will try to confine the attacks to rallies in front of supporters who will cheer stupidly for that kind of shit.

5. Agreed. Unless McCain is truly trying to sabotage his own campaign, he won't touch that
in a town hall format.

6. McFucked is bitter because Obama and his supporters..
have kicked their ass in fund raising. While they are going broke, Obama camp still has a surplus. it is called fiscal responsibility and good financial management. Something McFucked knows nothing about.

Maybe we should ask McFucked how much funding he received from a certain Russian.

"change of heart about taking public money" What is that suppose to mean? we are the Public and we have given him money.

8. Barack's campaign has been completely transparent and his 100,000th donor was an American union guy.

Even at random only an American donor surfaced. Barack only needs to put that clip up on his site when he made that call to verify his donors.
