| A fly in Shrubya's CompTime v. Overtime soup |
|
At forst he makes it sound good. A worker will get 1 1/2 hours comptime for every hour worked over 40 hours so they can take the time off and spend with their families, thereby making it a "family friendly" idea.
Now, I don't know about manufacturing, but I do know about health and social services. Overtime is not something that's optional. We work over 40 hours a week because there aren't enough workers to fill the shifts. Getting a few hours off for doctors appointments, teacher/parent meetings, car repairs, etc are a nightmare, let alone getting a few extra days off to spend time with the family. So now here comes a worker that can't get time off to begin with, then has to work overtime, and then gets time in lieu of pay. Now exactly when are they supposed to use this time. Time off is at the discretion of management. No staff, no time off.
Family friendly my ass... it's another way to put the screws to the already incredibly stretched paycheck, and save business bucks by not having to pay the overtime.
I guess old Shrubya really doesn't know a thing about "real 'Muricans" after all

| 3. Comp time = less money for employees. |
|
How is that good for them?
These delegates just hear words that sound nice, don't think about their meaing at all and applaud.
A lot of them will lose income over this.

| 4. BTW, I used to work at a school in Japan where they gave comp time |
|
rather than overtime pay. It was a hassle scheduling the hours off and I would have much rather had the damn money.

| 5. I know it's Christmas Eve, kids, but Daddy has to work 'til midnight... |
|
They're going to give him 2 hours off every Wednesday in July to make up for it, though.
That's right, peon: family flexibility means we're gonna flex your filthy little family however we goddam well please, so shut up and smile. Remember, if we fire you, you might not get those hours off within the 13 month limit...
