Here's the line for the first rally in Philadelphia, which stretched for 5 full city blocks an hour before the start.
It was amazing that so many Temple University students got out of bed at 6 AM on a Saturday to get in line.



I guess Obama really is a Muslim. Here's proof - he held his rally across the street from a Muslim store.

2. Description of the Rally

Obama held four very successful rallies over 6 hours in different sections of Philadelphia today (Saturday October 11).

Obama talked about his experiences yesterday in a diner in Georgetown, Ohio. He met with the owner of the diner. The owner said he was a hardcore Republican. "How's business?" Obama asked. The owner replied "Not good, few people in town can afford to go out to eat." Obama then tried to get him to understand that is the problem with the Republican's economic policies - they benefit the rich, and there aren't enough people in the middle class left to support local businesses. Obama suggested that he stop "beating his head again the wall" supporting the same policies that haven't worked. Obama said he thinks he won the man's vote.

My favorite was when Obama talked about how everyone in the crowd had someone in their family who sacrificed to help younger members of their family. I thought of my aunts who worked 60 hours in a factory starting at age 13 so their youngest sister (my mom) could go to college. (That was right after the Republican Supreme Court overturned the Child Labor Law that Roosevelt had gotten passed). I also thought of a rich man (Milton Hershey) who gave away almost all his money 30 years before he died, which allowed my starving orphan father to go to a great orphanage Mr. Hershey founded and to college. Then I thought of how my aunts had saved money for years, so they could leave it to my kids for their college funds (too bad it is in mutual funds).

Obama said that everyone in the crowd had someone in their family who sacrificed
to help younger members of their family. He continued (paraphrased):

Some of us had grandparents or parents who said: 'maybe I can't go to college but my child can;
maybe I can't have my own business but my child can. I may have to rent,
but maybe my children will have a home they can call their own. I may not have a lot of money but
maybe my child will run for Senate. I might live in a small village but maybe someday my son
can be a candidate for president of the United States of America.'

Today, Obama also recognized McCain for trying to calm some of the hate at McCain's rallies by
informing the crowd that Obama was a Christian. Earlier today, when
McCain said he respected Obama, the crowd booed. CNN pointed out how unusual it is to attend a
rally for a candidate, and then boo what he says.

22. I think he learned from the primary. He did not spend enough time

with his base before the primary. He was traveling to other parts of the state. At the time someone said that that was a mistake on Obama's part.

21. Photographers loved the crowd

One of the best parts of Obama's rally occurred after Obama ran off to his fourth rally. At that point, all of the camera crews and still photographers came out on the stage and took pictures of the crowd. I loved the grin's on the faces of the photographers' faces - they were really enjoying it.

He's stockier than the last time I saw him (and I've seen him in person a few times since he was elected Gov.).
