Although the cable news networks were going apeshit with the Bush "bounce," the print media was doing just the opposite, filling pages with fact-checking of prominent Republican speeches.
For another example, check out nostamj's latest, excellent editorial cartoon thread; it's chock-full of seriously anti-Republican cartoons from very mainstream newspaper artists:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=2304422&mesg_id=2304422Cable news is all about instant gratification. Rather than wait for the natural cycle to kick in, they want to know NOW who's going to win in 60 days. They want to break stories, so they have to be on top of every little ebb and tide. Everything you see on cable news is almost too
ripe to be taken seriously.
Give it a little time, and I think the Time and Newsweek polls will begin to reflect reality better. The New York Times and Washington Post have been critical of the RNC, and eventually, that mood will trickle down to the local papers and television news.
And... everyone should ask themselves this question: Do you really think Bush would win by 11 points if the election were held today?
C'mon. :-)
