Ohio Senator Calls Obama a Socialist
This is their new meme. I posted this in our State forum also.
<snip>
Voinovich calls Obama a "socialist"

How bitter is the rhetoric getting out on the campaign trail and how red is the meat being tossed out to loyalists? Sen. George V. Voinovich, R-Ohio, told Meigs County Republicans that Democratic nominee Barack Obama is a "socialist."

Here is the quote from Voinovich, reported on first today by the Daily Sentinel of Pomeroy, Ohio, during a visit he made to the Meigs County GOP headquarters.

The paper reported that: "In relation to Obama, Voinovich told the audience: 'He is left of (Democratic senator from Massachusetts) Teddy Kennedy. With all due respect, the man is a socialist.'"

<snip>
UPDATE at 5:45 p.m.: Isaac Baker, an Obama spokesman reacted this way to Voinovich's "socialist" comment.

“John McCain and his supporters have embraced a smear campaign based on false attacks because they have no plan to turn around our economy and create jobs in Ohio," Baker said. "Sen. Obama will continue to discuss his plan to help middle class Ohioans support their families and stay in their homes, not desperately attempt to tear down his opponent.”

21. Well, the old bastard keeps getting elected, so someone must be.
Mostly old and Reagan Republican whitey Ohioans. Most progressives and dems cannot stand him. Hopefully next election, he'll be out on his ass like DeWine and we'll get a REAL senator in there.

2. I call Voinovich a fascist - so there
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 03:15 PM by mvd
He's closer to being a fascist than Obama will ever be to being a socialist.

6. Voinonvich is just trying to win back his "conservative cred"
since most Republicans hate him.

9. Very true, he used to be more of a moderate
I remember years ago they were talking about him being a VP choice. He began going against his party on some budget issues and he was out of favor with them.

10. This is the same party that just spent a trillion dollars bailing out Wall Street and is essentially
nationalizing the major banks.

12. Due to GOP attacks on our educational system
I doubt half the people listening to him know what a "socialist" is.

14. Did that as soon a I read this post
before even considering posting here.

Voinovich was once my Mayor and them my Governor and now my Senator. It has been a downhill ride for the whole time and now I feel he has hit bottom!

20. When I wrote Voinovich just now
I basically told him that his party and policies have rehabilitated the reputation of Socialism and greatly discredited their "golden calf" of Capitalism.

I also made sure he understood that I now held him in the same regard as I do Rove, Norquist and Atwater.
