when it came to selecting a wife to promote his career as a politican, he needed a wife to make his image more appealing to the public. His first choice was a Jewish woman and Poppy and the battleaxe nixed that one. Next was the dumbassed OLaura.

One other thing--this apparently barren couple, sought adoption, actually bringing a baby into their home to consider to adopt it--then it was discovered that Laura was pregnant and they shoved that little baby out of their home and back to the adoption home.
