| Is Dean blowing his chance to become Clark's VP |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-07-04 12:19 PM by MIMStigator
If he goes on the attack Dean might blows his chance to be Clark's VP and get the national security, foreign affairs experience he needs to be president.

ONE of these guys should wise up (if it is more than rhetoric) to that possibility.

|
I'm not sure at all that he'd go for it, though - regardless of the President.
I could be wrong - my gut tells me that he'd rather return to tending his seat in the Senate for a while, before contemplating possible future avenues.

All candidates say it in every election. Dean-Clark and Clark-Dean will remain viable options, regardless of the egos of campaign supporters.

Could you please tell me when Gen. Clark became a "real democrat"? Until quite recently Gen Clark didn't know himself which political party he belonged to, so save the "real Democrat" crap, OK?

might go to Bob Graham of Florida for VP. Don't know about Clark, but he'll need an establishment Democrat for VP. Perhaps Kerry? It's got a nice ring to it, Clark/Kerry.

If the purpose of the VP is, in part at least, to fill out the Presidential candidate's resume where it is lacking, Clark would be a great VP for Dean. But I don't think Dean would offer the same boost to Clark. It might deliver Northeastern liberal votes, but they are going to vote for the Democratic candidate no matter what.
Clark needs a seasoned statesman as his running mate. Who is that I wonder...

to be Clark's VP. Perhaps Clark should try to become Governor of Vermont to get learn the domestic and political experience he so sorely lacks.
Any ticket that includes Clark will alienate the base.

since neither has a job to go back to.
BUT there is no way either would be chosen. It's simple math.
The nominee will have to plan for a close election. The VP selection needs to be someone who gives us a shot at winning a state or states we lost in '00 - a real shot, with concrete reasons, not just hype.
The ideal man for the job, no matter who is the nominee, would be Bill Richardson of NM. He's been in Congress, UN Ambassador, Sec of Energy, and Governor. His Hispanic background would help in Colorado and Florida, as well as nail down New Mexico (we only won by 500 votes last time). He's said he won't do it, but everybody says that.
If he really won't, look for medium-to-large states we lost by not too big a margin last time around. That could mean Graham for FL, or Gephardt for MO. Riskier plays would be Bayh for Indiana or Edwards for NC.
But you can all stop this Veep feud, because neither Dean nor Clark will be the #2 on the ticket, period.

he didn't have a chance to blow. IMO Dean isn't VP material; the VP deals with the Senate and pulls political weight around, Dean as a self-professed Washington outsider would be a poor choice. (Clark has also said he wouldn't pick Dean.)
If Kerry doesn't win the nomination, he's my preference for VP--among the major candidates. If Kerry does win the nomination, he shouldn't pick Dean or Clark; as stated above I don't think they're right for the job. Maybe he could pick Gephardt?

|
My cynicism will reemerge and my hope for America will be kaput.
Clark's dream is not mine and he simply does not believe in the change that I think is needed in this country and in my party.
I'll probably vote for whoever wins the nom, but my heart will be out of this campaign as will my money and my efforts. I'm not giving my all for what I see as pretty much status quo in the areas that I feel strongest about.
That is why I will do whatever I can to make sure Dean wins. I really do feel he is the only hope for the future that I desire.
