25. I've been here since 01, and I don't remember that.

Not a mass unmasking. I remember a few people being found out, and a few people over time revealing themselves. I remember speculation about others.

Then again, in 04 I was involved in several campaigns and spent that night at election parties and at the county central election headquarters watching votes get counted, so maybe I just missed it. I had a life back then. :)

14. IIRC, some of the name changes had to do with names tied to a particular

just sort of pontificated and started telling everyone what we should not do, what we should do. I don't remember particulars but he really started some drama. Some DUers got behind him and got pissed at other DUers for goofing on him. He said he couldn't tell us who he was. As I recall it, he just disappeared. More might have happened. I don't recall.

30. Most of the people I was watching have already nose-dived.

There were a few posters who continually worked a certain other primary candidate into every thread, pretending to be Obama supporters just to bash That Other One to get us all fighting. Most of the ones I was watching have since eaten the granite pie.

It's funny watching the evolution of disruptors. The earliest incarnation of them were the "Why are Democrats afraid of honest debate?" folk. Easy to dispense with, and probably the most honest. Then came the FriendofaFriend disruptors--they would post, "I'm a real Democrat wearing real Democratic buttons and I hate that Fu%&ing A$$wip# Chimpie Bush and my daddy worked on John F Kennedy's campaign (sometimes they work in that they are black, because of course that makes them more credible as a Dem), but I have a friend who is an idiot conservative, and he swears that John Kerry's economic policy will actually cost jobs and is really communism which always fails. Can anyone help me overcome that argument from this ignorant moran friend of mine? I will argue with you, but only so that you can help me overcome my friend's arguments."

Then came the real "Concern Trolls" (as opposed to the misuse of the word these days)--they would post "I'm a real Democrat yadayadayada (see above pedigree), but I'm really concerned that the Swiftboat claims have exposed John Kerry as a fraud. It breaks my heart to say it, but we may have to consider voting for Bush, and then getting a real candidate in four years." Variations include "I'm concerned because new evidence proves that there were WMDs and maybe we were wrong," or "I'm concerned that people will believe this new email I just received because it really seems to prove that John Edwards has a big house."

Then came the "I'm done with the Democrats until Nancy Pelosi grows balls."

Now the disruptors have gotten clever, and play our own disputes against us, like Randy Quaid in the old "Tastes great, less filling" commercials. "I'm an Obama supporter, and Clinton supporters are really traitors campaigning for 2012," or the flipside "I'm a Clinton supporter and I'm voting for McCain because Obama ate a small child's hand." The clever aspect of these disruptors is that they can get the supporters of one candidate to vouch for them if they are good, so the source of the fighting--the true disruptor--gets lost in the shuffle. Plus, genuine DUers can express the same thoughts now and then in good faith--some Obama supporters really believed the Drudge stuff about Clinton, some Clinton supporters really believed the arguments about Obama. It isn't the argument that makes the person a disruptor, it is the frequency of their comments, especially in irrelevant posts.

The pathetic side of current disruptors is that they are no longer even pretending to have a superior argument they have to convince us of--that at least was an honest motivation, however dimwitted. Now they just try to make us fight ourselves. And of course, if you look at GD:P these days, you can see that they failed. We squabble over little stuff, but there is complete unity on the big picture.

I do believe we will have unmaskings.. or at the very least, a VERY large exodus the day after. After 7 or so years here.. you get a feeling for these things -- it should be interesting, but let's hope it's not so painful this time.
