laughably pathetic...as someone who knew Steele professionally during his time at Lt. Gov, i pegged him as one of those "join gop out of political expedience" - types....i guess he is a loyal true believer to the repubs after all...
HARRISONBURG - Michael Steele, a former Maryland lieutenant governor, urged supporters of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to go all out in the last few days before Tuesday's election.
"John McCain, throughout his career, has put country first. I am asking you for the next five days, let's put him first," Steele said while in the city for a stop at the headquarters of the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County committees.
Steele, the first black to win statewide office in Maryland, is the second high-profile McCain representative to appear in Harrisonburg since his opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., visited James Madison University on Tuesday. On Wednesday, McCain's 96-year-old mother, Roberta, stopped at the GOP headquarters.
Steele's visit came as the race is in its last legs and Obama leading McCain in nearly every national and Virginia opinion poll. But McCain, Steele said, already has exhibited his ability to overcome the odds during the past 16 months of his campaign.
"The man is going to be the one that is going to stand up to the difficult times and lead," he said.
