| Just talked to Boston Globe reporter. |
|
Walter Robinson. He wrote the original Boston Globe story about Bush*s missing guard time back during the '99 campaign. He's managed to dig out most of the info that's finally surfacing and was on CNN with it yesterday.
We had a nice conversation. I was a pilot in the Alabama ANG in Birmingham from '63-'71. I wanted him to look more closely into why Bush* mustered out as a 1st Lt. After 5 years, promotion to Captain was automatic. Unless of course if you weren't IN for 5 years. I hope the story has legs this time around.

I have a great big hug for you! ((((trof)))), but then again, you usually make me smile when you post.
Thank you for calling Mr. Robinson, and sticking your neck out, especially in the political climate in which we live.

| 14. Terrific! I'm glad to see SOMEONE in the media is doing the followup! |
|
I'm still hoping that CNN & MSNBC will contact you. I sent your post from yesterday to them. I also sent it to Mike Malloy. I know he's not an investigative reporter, but it sure fits with his radio show!
Thank you so much for all you've done. I knew there had to be some people out there who were in ANG at the time Shrub said he was, and have wondered why noone was saying anything! They couldn't possibly have paid everybody off!

We talked for quite a while. I felt like I might be keeping him from his work, but he seemed glad to yak for several minutes. I guess talking to folks like me IS his job. Anyway, it was a very pleasant conversation. He was in the army, went to Officer Training School, and came out as a captain. He understands about progressing through the ranks.

I've been raising that questions for a long time.
I used to handle OERs in the Air Force. Most of what I've seen has been standard "boiler-plate" stuff. (e.g. every officer brings credit to himelf and the (insert your unit here) in an OER ) What seems to be missing is the OTHER boiler plate that states the Officer is ready for promotion in rank.

Are you in touch with any of your fellow servicemen? Does Robinson have access to them?
Robinson's done an excellent job so far - heard him on NPR last night.
And thanks for your service, btw.

| 22. From my 2/21/2004 Op/Ed piece on the DU Homepage: |
|
The story should end with George W. Bush serving his full TANG commitment and being discharged, with the rank of captain. However, First Lieutenant George Bush was discharged early, to attend graduate school at Harvard according to his account. A number of contradictions in Bush's TANG record have re-kindled scrutiny that was far from adequate, considering the implications, during the 2000 campaign. Those contradictions include drill attendance at his Ellington, AFB, TANG unit and questions concerning Bush's duty with the Alabama Air National Guard (AANG). The White House spins wildly trying to stamp out these pesky little brush fires.http://www.democraticunderground.com/articles/04/02/21_lies.html
