Just talked to Boston Globe reporter.

Walter Robinson.
He wrote the original Boston Globe story about Bush*s missing guard time back during the '99 campaign. He's managed to dig out most of the info that's finally surfacing and was on CNN with it yesterday.

We had a nice conversation. I was a pilot in the Alabama ANG in Birmingham from '63-'71. I wanted him to look more closely into why Bush* mustered out as a 1st Lt. After 5 years, promotion to Captain was automatic. Unless of course if you weren't IN for 5 years. I hope the story has legs this time around.

We talked for quite a while. I felt like I might be keeping him from his work, but he seemed glad to yak for several minutes. I guess talking to folks like me IS his job.
Anyway, it was a very pleasant conversation. He was in the army, went to Officer Training School, and came out as a captain. He understands about progressing through the ranks.

I've been raising that questions for a long time.

I used to handle OERs in the Air Force. Most of what I've seen has been standard "boiler-plate" stuff. (e.g. every officer brings credit to himelf and the (insert your unit here) in an OER ) What seems to be missing is the OTHER boiler plate that states the Officer is ready for promotion in rank.
