MUST READ: Economist Article about Bush's "Bounce"

Please read this and post responses. The article is a bit discouraging and it discusses the Time, Newsweek, and Gallup polls. However, Economist did their own poll and they seem to reflect Zogby's results.

THe part I didn't like:

"On the plus side, traditional polls may be underestimating Mr Kerry's level of support because Democratic voters are descending into a “spiral of silence”: the more they feel isolated, the quieter they become. But it also carries a negative implication: plenty of Mr Kerry's own side now think he is going to lose.

This crisis of confidence seems to have infected the Kerry campaign. The past two weeks have seen a shake-up in the high command. Three of Bill Clinton's aides have come in: his press secretary, Joe Lockhart, his political director, Doug Sosnik, and a senior policy adviser, Joel Johnson. Also drafted in was John Sasso, who had been in charge of campaigning at the Democratic National Committee.

The change in personnel—rarely a good sign—seemed to presage a change in strategy...."

1. I do admit to be worried that Dems could be losing faith

When that starts, it's hard to stop.

3. I think that's a bigger worry for the disaster called Bush

"Losing faith" means not making the effort to vote, and I think that's a bigger danger for the Bush team than silencing and attempting to isolate Kerry voters is for the Democrats. Some folks may look at Kerry and yawn, but they HATE BUSH and what he's done for the past 4 years.

The local clerk of court in central New Mexico told me that the voter registration forms have been coming in at the rate of 500-1000 per day, and that is NOT good news for Bush.

I wonder if i could find out how many registrations daily are happening here in LA. IS that information available to the public?

2. i get frustrated with the economist, though i read

it cover to cover and have for years.

One story will be a brilliant, expose', well analyzed, well writ, incisive and far reaching, the next seems to be a collection of headlines from the internet.

Overall, quality is good, but you can tell when the true substance is missing. I suspect that they realize that America is burdened with an insane person in office, and they are keeping that in the backs of their minds until and unless they can substantiate it more firmly. It is obvious that the editorial staff does not care for shrub in the least.

Sometimes, when analyzing US populations, they have the added asset of being distant, of spotting things that we miss because we take them for granted. In this case, I suspect that they are probably right and wrong. But not to the extent that we need to worry, jsut yet.

Do the new people make a change in strategy, from my perspective, a vastly different one, an one that was sorely needed.

Funny, how it all could be blown away into irrelevancy by a couple of more storms heading up from south east Atlantic - putting this election into no-man's land.

4. I think it's valid, however, what I fail to understand is why hasn't

the DNC made an alliance with the NAACP? I agree that the black community feels disenfranchised from the shaft they received in 2000, why wasn't there more outcry regarding that injustice? Therefore, I think the black community won't vote this year unless Kerry gives them a reason to vote, and you'd have to ask the community leaders, what reason would that take? I suspect a real involvement in the process would be the answer. Appointing blacks to high level positions and supporting black democrats who run for any office with money! I wanted Darell Jones for Governor of Florida in 2002, but McBride got the party's backing because he was another white guy. Too bad, we're stuck with Jeb, Bush's brother once again.

6. Speaking of the black community...

John Kerry is in New Orleans today speaking to the Baptist Convention, "a predominantly black Baptist group which boasts more than 7 million members nationwide. With about 35,000 members attending the meeting, Kerry's speech could have implications beyond Louisiana."

BushCO sent the the housing secretary:

"The nation's largest black church group interrupted the U.S. housing secretary's speech Thursday with sustained boos when he said the Republican Party is committed to helping black people."

8. GREAT NEWS! Now, will Kerry motivate the community? Will he

seize this opportunity in HISTORY to really engage the black community to change American politics to really include the dream that any child of America can become President? This motivates my ass to get more involved. I was devastated watching FH911 and listening to the black leaders try to get justice in Florida when their votes were cast aside! Gore disappointed me with that, he should have continued to fight for the black vote and he should have demanded every vote count.

7. Kerry Will Win - and I'm a usually a cynic

Kerry will win. All these personel changes. It's not even real news. He's bringing in new heads....how is this a bad thing. It'd be a bad thing if his campaign went down down down without changing anything.

Change at this date is not a bad thing. There is plenty of time to get those new ideas in there and bang out this election.

How do I know Kerry will win? Because I know that it'll be devastating to this country if he doesn't. Like many others here I suspect, Kerry wasn't my first choice. Heck he wasn't even my second. I'm not an 'Anybody but Bush' guy, but seriously.

Until I'm proven otherwise I have faith that enough Americans will wake up before the election and vote out the worst President this country has possibly ever had. Worst in at least a century.
