you guys sound like freepers when you get all bent out of shape any time Matthews does not say exactly what you want him to say. You need to listen with a bit more objectivity. Matthews is trying hard to come off as fair, and he is getting the point across. If he acted like a charter member of the DU, who would take him seriously but us? He needs to be even handed if he is going to change anyone's mind. And, other than Olbermann, he is all we have, so cut him some slack.

but if I was a Bush supporter, I probably could. That's all I am trying to say. That we are allowing our emotions to color what we hear. We believe that Bush is scum, and cannot understand why it is not obvious to everyone else. I know it would be nice to have a counter to FOX, but that is not going to happen. FOX did not just happen over night. It was a slow and deliberate effort to suck people in and get them to the point where they believe everything said. We are trying to lure people to our way of thinking, but a sledgehammer is not going to work. If Matthews goes overboard, people will turn him out.

I've tried to be objective with this guy to exhaustion. Yesterday Matthews said point blank that the George Bush AWOL story doesn't matter because it occurred 30 years ago. "Who gives a rat's ass" was his position. Yet, the very next day, he goes back to dredging up the details about Kerry's service.

Noone could possibly find this acceptable, not even a non-partisan individual, or someone from another country, with no stake in the matter.

On August 25th, Matthews said "What I would like to see as the moderator here is a debate between John Kerry and George W. Bush over John Kerry's war record."

On August 26th, Matthews said "The question is whether John Kerry could have written the reports based on not having seen the incident".

Yesterday, on September 8th, when the story becomes George Bush's military record, his position is "Who gives a rat's ass what happened 30 years ago".

No, sorry, no. Not even in independent's mindset or a Republican's mindset, nor ANYONE'S mindset would find Matthews even-handed. He spent 3 weeks dredging up Kerry's war record, viewing it from every possible angle and yet he doesn't even want to spend half a show on George Bush's record. The man deserves not one ounce of slack.

I watched matthews on Bill Maher and he was a completely different person. He laid out a compelling case for voting for Kerry. On MSNBC his other personality surfaces. If you think he's even handed, by all means, continue watching.
