| What's a Diversion and What's Not a Diversion? |
|
I submit we are running down a dark, one-way alley talking about these documents, etc. It is a diversion that will lead us nowhere. It would be nice to see Bush say he was lying and offer everyone a mea culpa but it ain't gonna happen. We need to get on to more substantive matters. Matters that will determine who wins and who loses this election. Let the media sort out the National Guard mess.
People are concerned about the war in Iraq and how long we are going to be there. So far, Kerry is the only one that has offered an exit strategy. Bush has no idea. He will play it by ear. This issue favors Kerry if it is presented properly.
People are concerned about leadership. They believe Bush is a better leader than Kerry at this time. Don't ask me why but that seems to be the case. Kerry needs to draw stark distinctions on this issue. Cheney asks us to vote for who will make us safer. We need to remind the voters that they had a chance to keep us safe on 9/11 and they failed. They ignored all warning signs. Now they want to brag about their failure. They're all cowboys after the fact. We can do better than that.
We had a chance to get those that attacked us when we went into Afghanistan. We could have cleaned up that mess and we could have gotten Osama bin Laden, but Bush and Cheney turned the ships around and headed toward Iraq. Now we have 130,000 troops in a semi-quagmire and over 1000 deaths due to their "leadership". We can do better than that.
Those are the strongpoints of Bush and Cheney that must be attacked - not National Guard records. Of course, that doesn't mean we ignore these stories if they offer the opportunity to put the Bush campaign on the defensive but, we should not allot the majority of our attention on these matters.
