| Forgeries? Hell, he had to have typed more than 4 memoes on that machine! |

There must be thousands of other memos, reports, etc., as well as carbon-copies in the hands of former guardsmen of the period. All CBS has to do is find one with the same font. (Every typewriter, by the way, has unique "fingerprints" as the FBI well knows.)

| 1. This forgery stuff is just a distractor. |

I watched an interview with Dan Rather on CNN this morning. They were pretty rough on him, and asked if he was thinking about a retraction. He said "I know these documents are real and there has not even been any talk, thought, or consideration of a retraction!" I am very confident that neither CBS nor Dan Rather would risk their reputation for any story.
Calm down everybody. this to will pass, and all will be proven true.

| 2. I guarantee CBS has had multiple true experts vet these documents. |

A story of this magnitude gets checked, rechecked and checked again. This fake and forgery bullshit is just that: BULLSHIT designed to obscure the message and content.

one painless way of telling the truth is as simple as finding another piece of paper that went through that machine, many of which must be available to any reporter worth his or her salt. So instead of hours spent arguing, a reporter need simply look.
Someone already knows the names of all the pilots at that time and place. A reporter might ask one of these former airmen to see his file (or to release records), etc. It's embarrassingly simple, one would think, . . . but we're living in a world where reporters seem increasingly beyond embarrassment.

| 4. Or too fricking lazy to do thier job! |

I get the feeling that the actual investigative reporters that are left are grossly over worked, and probably underpaid. They're not the faces you see on camera...those are just monitor readers. I suspect the real reporters do the best they can with the time they have, but can no longer take days or weeks to really dig into a potential story.

Oh, just because YOU never used one or don't recall one, it doesn't exist, right?
Bleh.

Then you'll have earned the right to call the skeptic an idiot.

| 10. No need-there is another document with the th superscript |
|
One of the documents released by the WH earlier has a th superscript on it - sorry I don't have the link - I have no idea which of these threads it is in. So they had a typewriter that did this - whether it is the same one used for the infamous memos, that I don't know.

| 6. I'm kicking this myself, but I should be kicking any DAMN |
|
reporter who can't think of this his or herself.
Geez.
Other documents at same time on same machine would be proof positive. These documents are easy to obtain. (Well, you'd have to ask someone . . . and maybe reporters are too busy speculating to ask and SEE FOR THEIR DAMNED SELVES!!!)
Same problem Mr. Jack Gillis brought to my attention in 1998 when we realized the "talking points memo" (supposedly given by the President--or one os his men--to Monica in order to have Tripp perjure herself. The DAMNED memo that gave Kenneth Starr the authority to investigate the "Lewinsky affair" by the Justic Department. The very newspapers (and I'm talking all the big ones: NY Times, W Post, etc.) that printed the talking points did not realize that they had printed 3 different versions among themselves, with 7 variants in common with each version. These variants included diction changes and phrase changes. Nothing changes!!!

| 9. Skip, what worries me is that the FOIA docs Marty Heldt made public |
|
may have come from Killiam's office, and they don't resemble these at all. Would Killiam have had two different kinds of typewriters in his office? One for memos and one for forms?

| 11. Good questions. You can prove it's not a forgery by finding other |
|
documents of the period on that machine with his sig. It think some will turn up and this would be the quickest and easiest way (if these are found) to prove they're real.
I just wrote 60 Mins. II as well.
I think we should know one way or another. If someone DID forge them, that will hurt Kerry and Dems in general, I'm afraid. But unlike the folks who listen to the Swifties and take everything as gospel, we shouldn't stand for the same dirty tricks with the same sheep-like credulity. My 2 cents.
But I wouldn't have suggested this with such vigor (repeated in 3 threads) if I didn't believe it would help.

All the other memos will show them.
