I thought '04 was bad, but this has been the most nasty, contentious election cycle that I've ever seen here. I have theories, but it would be counterproductive to mention them at this point.

I'm happy with the outcome of the election, and I'm coming here less and less now. I'm tired of all the posters that's only point is to deride and divide and garner a 100 post reply to their hyperbolic, overly dramatic OP, as if that gives them some kind of credibility.

Gone are the dilligent researchers of gdp that provided invaluable links and hard hitting stories backed up by facts that culminated into thoughtful discussion. They'll be back, in fact most just hang out in LBN now.

This site was founded in response to a stolen election, a crime against our democratic system. That is my primary interest: our system and legitimacy, and beyond that the ending of the chokehold that Rightwing extremists have held our country in.

I have little interest in going forward into a four- or eight-year Primary-type battle among Democrats, characterized here by meanness and disrespect for others and their opinions. Like some others in this thread, I like all our prominent Democrats, and object to demonization of any of them.

Yes, we do need to get behind our president, but that doesn't mean we should shut down the normal exchange of differing opinions. The thing here I never understand is the penchant some have for agreement. Disagreement is normal and it is useful.

People will argue about which person likes Obama more. They'll argue about who loathes Bush the most. They'll argue about anything, because 1) they're opinionated, and 2) they enjoy arguing.

I consider these discussions public expressions by anonymous people of their most ID driven thoughts. THAT is the true value of the posts here - their basic honesty. That's why I don't get in a snit over any particular opinion. I don't get troubled by opinions, but by those who think they can nag others into agreement.
