It is clear from the report of the 9-11 commission that "Farenheight 9-11" did indeed have its facts wrong. Bush was inactive for much longer than 7 minutes on 9-11.

At 8:55 am Bush was told that a commercial airliner had hit the world trade center. At 9:05 Andrew Card told the president "a second plane hit the second tower, America is under attack. Another 7 minutes passes as Bush claims to project calm and remains seated.

At 9:15 he watched television to see the event. Up until 9:30 the attention of the president was on his address to the nation.

At 10:20 the president authorized the shoot down of aircraft if necessary.

"The defence of US airspace was not conducted in accordance with pre-existing training and protocols" because America's leaders did not lead. It was improvized by civilians.

The FAA acted independently to ground all aircraft.

Cheny bypassed the chain of command (the sec of defence and the president) to authorize a shooting down of civilian aircraft but he did it wrong and only thought the authorization went through.

Langley pilots were scrambled from Norad but were never briefed on why they were scrambled. The lead pilot was under the impression he was looking for cruise missiles from Russia.

It appears that the only thing Bush did between 8:55 and 10:20 was his address to the nation. This is while our nation was still under attack from hijacked planes and there were still opportunities to avert further attacks.

Look at Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Wolfowitz, Tenet, and Myers and how each one reacted that morning. Not a single one of them reacted in an appropriate manner. Not a single one did anything to respond to an ongoing terrorist attack. Not a single one reacted like a normal human being to the fact that the WTC in NYC was in the midst of a catastrophe. Not a single one of them.

The complete failure of the key people in the Chain of Command allowed 9-11 to happen. They all knew what was going on and not a single one did anything to respond to the attack. Not a single one.

John Dean (yes, that John Dean)

wrote an excellent book called "Worse than Watergate" which outlines George Bush's actions on that day and questions GB's account of what happened and what he did. Bush's retelling is full of holes and lies which I won't detail here. It does make a huge deal of the fact that GB had reason to believe he may have been a target on that day. If you think you are a target of terrorism, why in God's name would you sit in a room full of children!!! The book is a must read especially considering the source.

16. What was the time line on Cheney's order?

I've always been curious about this....I saw a documentary on TV on the 1st anniversary of 9/11 where they interviewed a pilot that received these orders. I've never gotten my head completely around this. Why would the military brass pass these orders on to the pilot (from Cheney) unless "the President was unable to fulfill his duties".
It's always been my impression there can only be 1 commander-in-chief. If Cheney was assuming that role, where was Bush? - why was he not at his post?
