Still, kind of brings into focus just how distorting our electoral system is. For all the huffing about 'the small states need the electoral college' the reality is that most states and most of the population, big and small, get ignored as candidates focus on a half dozen 'in play' states. I doubt I will ever see the day, but instant runoff direct election would be a vastly more democratic system.

7. You are right - how did I miss that one? I noticed OK and Utah. I missed Wyoming.

Montana really came close. Georgia is pretty good - only 5 points. We could have won Missouri but it wasn't really focused on that much.

14. The real surprise here - the very large margins in NV and NM

I mean, I was positive Obama was going to win those states (well not so much for NV), but not nearly by the margins he did. I figured they would be low single digit margins.

In fact, I expected Iowa to go for more than 9%, but he never had a chance to go back there as much as he wanted and I think the 'pubs "scared" a few of those people.

Hell, even Colorado went for more than I expected. Bradley Effect was truly shattered. Obama effect FOR REAL.

P.S. - Also, we narrowed the gap to 5% in GA. We have another 4 years to work on this state and it might go blue next time.

Just looking at this map, I would say MO, GA, AZ, ND, and SD. Obviously a lot depends on how the next four years play out, but does anyone think there are other good candidates?

If things go great and the GOP runs a loon candidate like Palin or Jindal, we could be looking at a 400+ EV landslide. AZ will certainly be winnable, the demographics are shifting in our favor. TX might even be in play....

Obviously both are highly unlikely scenarios, which would only occur with a perfect Obama administration, disastrous Republican 2012 campaign, and maybe a 3rd party candidate that siphons off GOP votes. Scenario 1 is more likely than Scenario 2, of course.
